High school football finished up is second week in the Garden State, with multiple powerhouses playing against out-of-state opponents in Week 2.

Bergen Catholic went down to the Sunshine State and defeated a very good West Boca Raton team in a 21-14 grinder. Who else made the cut in the second set of the Top 25 rankings out of New Jersey?

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the latest New Jersey high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey.

1. Bergen Catholic Crusaders

The Crusaders had themselves a doozy of a regular season opener when they defeated East St. Louis (Ill.) at the Battle at the Beach Classic in Ocean City. Bergen Catholic followed up that with another impressive win down in South Florida, defeating West Boca Raton (Fla.), 21-14. Sophomore Jackson Vaughn is just heading into his second season of playing varsity ball has established himself as the top EDGE rusher in the Northeast and is making his case for on the East Coast. The Crusaders this week will travel down to South Jersey and face off against Winslow Township in a battle for the Garden State. When it comes to New Jersey high school football’s public versus private matchups, it doesn’t get any better than this.

2. Don Bosco Prep Ironmen

For the first time in New Jersey high school football history, a team from the Garden State has gone to the Lone Star State and won. The Ironmen pulled off a thrilling 14-10 win over the Cardinals and followed it up with another out-of-state team in Monarch (Fla.), defeating the Knights 38-21 at home. Looking ahead at Don Bosco Prep’s schedule, the Ironmen have teams like St. Anthony’s (N.Y.), DePaul Catholic, St. Joseph Regional and rival Bergen Catholic. When it comes to New Jersey high school football regular season schedules, not many schools can stack up to Ironmen’s.

3. DePaul Catholic Spartans

For as good as DePaul Catholic looked to start the season, the Spartans took a small step back in a 21-20 loss to Good Counsel last week. The Spartans despite the setback still hold down the third spot in the rankings as they have one of the top offensive units in the state behind Washington commit Derek Zammit behind center. Zammit this season has completed 37 of 58 passes for 462 yards and four touchdowns.

4. St. Joseph Regional Green Knights

St. Joseph Regional didn’t get to kickoff their season in style a couple weeks ago on the field, receiving a ho hum forfeit win over Riverdale Baptist (Md.). The Green Knights got things rolling against a different DMV team when they traveled down to the nation’s capital to face St. John’s College High on Saturday afternoon coming away with a 34-19 win. Green Knights feature one of the most talented secondaries around, led by Tennessee commit KJ McClain.

5. Winslow Township Eagles

There’s a lot to like about this Winslow Township Eagles team, especially on the offensive side of the ball starting with quarterback Jalen Parker. The Eagles bounced back from their 35-14 loss to nationally ranked IMG Academy to start the season as they walloped Highland Regional, 47-0. That now sets up a showdown this week against No. 1 Bergen Catholic in a North Jersey vs. South Jersey battle for state supremacy.
