For the second straight year, Iona Prep has established themselves as the top New York Catholic high school football team in the state.

On Saturday afternoon at Mara Field, the Gaels leaned on North Carolina commitment Crew Davis en route to a 42-21 victory over St. Francis for the Catholic NY state championship.

Iona Prep opened up the scoring on the dais, as Davis scored on a 64-yard touchdown run midway through the opening quarter. St. Francis (10-2) answered right back with a 3-yard scoring scamper from Tyrone Clark Jr. to tie things up at 7-all.

The Gaels would take the lead back with less than a couple minutes before halftime when Davis punched in a touchdown run from 12 yards out. The Red Raiders were able to tie the game back up before the halftime buzzer sounded on a scoring throw from junior signal caller Trent Buttles.

What was a tied game at the half ended up becoming totally dominated by Iona Prep in the final two quarters, with quarterback Julian Guzman accounting for multiple touchdowns and Davis adding another.

The Gaels finish the 2025 season with a 11-1 record and should finish as New York’s top-ranked high school football team when it’s all said and done.
