New York high school football latest set of weekly Top 25 rankings doesn’t show much of a shakeup at the top, despite the fact that the No. 1 team fell to the No. 2 squad, according to the Massey Ratings.

The latest set of Empire State rankings has Iona Preparatory School as New York’s No. 1 high school football team once again, though the Gaels lost to Monsignor Farrell, 28-21, last week. The Lions now sit at No. 2 in the state, though they could most certainly make the argument that they’re the top team because of the win they just nabbed.

Which other New York high school football teams make the list in our next set of Top 25 rankings of the regular season?

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the latest New York high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Oct. 20.

1. Iona Preparatory School Gaels

Iona Prep (6-1) last week dropped their first game of the season, a 28-21 loss to Monsignor Farrell.

The Gaels had started the regular season with a bang, halting the Somers Tuskers’ winning streak and routed them, 37-7, at the Hero’s Bowl Classic and then followed it up with a 53-43 victory over a very good Paramus Catholic team out of New Jersey.

Now Iona Prep will look to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they go on the road this Saturday when they face Kellenberg Memorial (1-6).

Quarterback Julian Guzman has led the way for Iona Prep’s offense, throwing for 1,424 yards and 116 touchdowns through the first few games. Running back Crew Davis, a three-star prospect committed to North Carolina, has spearheaded to the Gaels’ efforts on the offensive side of the ball with 788 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground this season.

2. Monsignor Farrell Lions

Monsignor Farrell (6-1) made the biggest and likely, best case to being the state’s No. 1 team by beating Iona Prep last week, 28-21.

The Lions did, however, bump up two spots in this week’s rankings and will continue to push the Gaels the rest of the way.

Sophomore quarterback Bryce Moye has been solid behind center in the Lions’ first six games as the signal caller completed 76 of 102 passes for 1,206 yards, 13 touchdowns and most importantly, zero interceptions. Senior running back Kevin Gumb Jr. has been the workhorse out of the backfield this season, with the tailback rushed for 828 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Lions returns home this week when they face St. Joseph by the Sea (4-3).

3. Syracuse Christian Brothers Academy Brothers

Christian Brothers Academy (7-0) continues proving themselves time and time again as one of the top high school football programs in the state of New York and are looking the part once again this fall.

The 2025 season kicked off with a dominating 28-7 victory over Whitesboro to start off at 1-0. Christian Brothers improved to 7-0 after last week’s 42-10 romp over a previously undefeated Liverpool. Looking at the gap between CBA’s scoring versus their opponents is wide as the Brothers have out-scored the opposition 346-53 through seven contests.

The Brothers take aim at a 8-0 regular season record when they take on Cicero-North Syracuse (6-2) on Thursday night.

4. St. Francis Red Raiders

St. Francis (5-1) just keeps rolling behind their high-powered offense, being able to defeat Bishop Timon-St. Jude, 59-35. When it comes to offenses, the Red Raiders can keep up with the best of ’em.

The Red Raiders got a solid outing in Week 1 from junior quarterback Trent Buttles, who completed 14 of 29 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns. St. Francis look to pickup their sixth victory of the season when they face off against McDowell at home.

Entering this season, the Red Raiders are seeking to reach the state championship game for the first time since 2018. The Red Raiders will need big seasons from Domonic Cook, Jr. and Mason Anderson if they are to accomplish that goal.

5. Tottenville Pirates

The Tottenville Pirates (7-0) continues to cruise through the regular season, latest win being a 43-20 rout of Abraham Lincoln.

After the midway point, the Pirates have out-scored their opponents 268-120 on the season, with their offense averaging an impressive 38.2 points per game. With the way their regular season schedule plays out the rest of the way, Tottenville should be undefeated heading into the postseason.

The Pirates have a bye week and are back in action next against John F Kennedy on Nov. 2.
