Omarion Hampton, a rookie running back for the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers, made a name for himself playing his high school football in the Tar Heel State of North Carolina.

After that, he went on to star at the University of North Carolina before being selected as the No. 22 pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. Now, he’s looking to give back just ahead of his rookie season to his alma mater.

According to a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Cleveland High School’s football program posted a video thanking Hampton for providing his alma mater with new Nike cleats ahead of the 2025 season.

During Hampton’s days of playing at Cleveland, the running back rushed for 5,369 yards and 88 touchdowns for the Rams, while averaging an eye-popping 10.4 yards per touch.

After his time in high school, Hampton went on to play for Mack Brown at North Carolina, solidifying himself as one of the top college running backs in the country. Hampton finished with touting the rock 622 times for 3,565 rushing yards and 36 touchdowns on the ground, good enough for fourth in Tar Heels program history and stands only behind Amos Lawrence, Mike Voight, and Leon Johnson.

Hampton heads into the 2025 NFL season as an early Offensive Player of the Year candidate playing in a favorable run-heavy offense, led by Chargers’ head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Cleveland is always considered one of North Carolina’s top high school football programs, as they’ve consistently been in the hunt for a state championship in past years.

Last season, Cleveland finished 13-1, falling in the fourth round of the NCHSAA Class 4A playoffs in the fourth round. The Rams are currently ranked No. 22 according to the Massey Ratings preseason high school football rankings for North Carolina.

Cleveland will open up the 2025 season at home against Pinecrest on Aug. 22.
