The high school football season continued in North Carolina last week, as many of the Tar Heel State’s top programs were in action. Plenty of interesting results followed.

Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for state championships. Below are the top 25 high school football teams in North Carolina, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Sept. 1.

1. William Amos Hough Huskies

After a four-point opening weekend victory over South Point, the Huskies maintained a perfect record after a 35-0 shutout of Independence. Quarterback Ethan Royal was responsible for four touchdowns (two passing, two rushing), while their defense tallied two sacks and six tackles for losses. William Amos Hough will aim for a 3-0 record in a road game against Virginia’s Highland Springs.

2. Providence Day School Chargers

The Chargers followed up a one-point victory over Pennsylvania’s Roman Catholic with a more comfortable 38-10 win over Rolesville. Quarterback Zaid Lott finished with 19 completions for 214 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Aidan Gallos collected 101 yards from scrimmage (85 rushing) and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Providence Day School’s defense tallied four sacks and six tackles for losses. The next stop for the Chargers is a Sept. 5 home game against Charlotte Catholic.
