According to a report by HighSchoolOT, a North Carolina high school’s athletic program will go on pause during the government shutdown, that went into effect as of Wednesday, Oct. 1.

With the U.S. Congress unable to come to terms on a budget agreement, Lejeune (N.C.), which resides on Camp Lejeune and is the only Department of Defense high school in the state, will see its sports programs currently paused until the government shutdown is lifted.

Per the report, this isn’t the first team that Lejeune has faced a pause due to a government shutdown as the Devilpups last went through this back in 2018-19.

Among the sports programs affected at the school are the undefeated boys soccer team, football, cross country, girls tennis and volleyball. Lejeune’s football team is currently 0-6 on the season, with its latest game being a 48-0 loss to Northside on Sep. 30. The Devilpups had moved the game up in anticipation of the government shutdown.

Through six games for the football team this season, Lejeune has been shut out five out of the six times they have taken the field. The Devilpups’ closest contest came back on Sep. 5 in a 28-14 loss to South Lenoir, the lone game they registered points this season.
