Ohio High School Football Games of the Week: Aug. 28-30

The Ohio high school football season continues, with some of its top teams building their case for inclusion in the state playoffs. This week, Ohio’s noteworthy games feature its best teams facing elite teams from other states.

No. 3 Mount Carmel (Ill.) at No. 1 Archbishop Moeller

When: Saturday, Aug. 30, 1 p.m. ET
Where: Grein Field at Roettger Stadium, Cincinnati, Ohio

The Crusaders began the Ohio high school football season with a 41-20 victory over Princeton. This week, they will host Chicago Mt. Carmel, the defending Illinois high school football Class 7A state champions. It’s a matchup at Archbishop Moeller’s home turf that could be decided in the final drive.

Massey prediction: Mount Carmel 31, Archbishop Moeller 30

No. 7 Archbishop Hoban at No. 2 Archbishop Spalding (Md.)

When: Saturday, Aug. 30, 7 p.m. ET
Where: Archbishop Spalding, Severn, Md.

The Knights started the Ohio high school football season with a 31-12 victory over Harvest Prep. To earn a 2-0 record, Archbishop Hoban must defeat the Cavaliers on the road. In addition to playing at home, Archbishop Spalding will have extra motivation to win after dropping their season opener to Indiana’s Brownsburg.

Massey prediction: Archbishop Spalding 35, Archbishop Hoban 14

No. 5 Delbarton (N.J.) at No. 4 St. Edward

When: Saturday, Aug. 30, 12 p.m.
Where: Brother James Everett CSC Stadium, Lakewood, Ohio

After a shutout victory against Pickerington North, St. Edward’s 2025 Ohio high school football season continues by hosting Delbarton. New Jersey’s fifth-best team finished with a 7-3 record and will open the season against the Eagles.

Massey prediction: St. Edward 28, Delbarton 14

No. 6 Liberty Christian Academy (Va.) at No. 26 Ironton

When: Saturday, Aug. 30, 8 p.m.
Where: Tanks Memorial Stadium, Ironton, Ohio

The Fighting Tigers started the season with an emphatic 63-0 victory against Kentucky’s Shelby Valley. After going on the road last week, Ironton will have its home opener versus Liberty Christian Academy, a team seeking its second victory in as many games. This game will be a challenge for the home team early in the Ohio high school football season.

Massey prediction: Ironton 35, Liberty Christian Academy 26

No. 2 Middletown (Del.) at No. 11 Bishop Watterson

When: Saturday, Aug. 30, 4:30 p.m. ET
Where: Ironton High School, Ohio

The Eagles opened the Ohio high school football season with a 37-15 victory over Big Walnut. Bishop Watterson will remain at home to host Middletown, Delaware’s second-best team. This road game will be the Cavaliers’ first match after winning last season’s Delaware Class 3A state championship.
