Ohio High School Football Games of the Week: Sept. 5

A new week of Ohio high school football action will bring us some exciting Friday night games, featuring some of the state’s top squads based on the latest Massey Ratings. While some Ohio-based squads will face each other, three teams on this list will compete against squads from outside the Buckeye State.
No. 2 St. Xavier at Cathedral (Ind.)
When: Friday, September 5, 7 p.m. ET
Where: Cathedral High School, Indianapolis, Indiana
The Bombers started the 2025 Ohio high school football season with victories over Lakota West and Centerville. This week, St. Xavier will cross the border to face Cathedral. It’s a tough challenge for Ohio’s second-best team, especially with the Fighting Irish suffering a shutout loss to Brownsburg. This pairing could deliver a fantastic game that could be decided in the final minutes.
Massey prediction: Cathedral 20, St. Xavier 16
Trinity (Ky.) at No. 3 Archbishop Moeller
When: Friday, September 5, 7 p.m. ET
Where: Grein Field at Roettger Stadium, Cincinnati, Ohio
The Crusaders are coming off a heartbreaking one point loss at home against Mt. Carmel, Illinois’ top-ranked team. They will try to erase that result as they welcome Trinity, Kentucky’s best high school football squad. While the Shamrocks haven’t surrendered any points in their first two victories, Archbishop Moeller is still predicted to pick up their second win in three games.
Massey prediction: Archbishop Moeller 41, Trinity 14
Detroit Catholic Central (Mich.) at No. 39 Central Catholic
When: Friday, September 5, 7 p.m. ET
Where: Gallagher Stadium, Toledo, Ohio
The Fighting Irish dropped their first two matches by a combined margin of four points. They are hoping to get their breakthrough victory in the 2025 Ohio high school football season, but that’s easier said than done. Waiting for them is Michigan’s top-ranked team, which handily defeated Chippewa Valley in its season opener. However, given their home-field advantage, Central Catholic could pull off a close win against Detroit Catholic Central.

No. 7 Glenville at No. 13 Avon

Where: Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet Stadium, Avon, Ohio
The Eagles have split their first two games, with their last match being a three-point loss to Spruce Creek. They will host Glenville, which won its first two matches by a total of 12 points. This pairing could turn into an epic battle in which Massey predicts Avon, the home team, as the winner.
Massey prediction: Avon 42, Glenville 14
No. 20 Pickerington Central at No. 25 Pickerington North
When: Friday, September 5, 7 p.m. ET
Where: Panther Stadium, Pickerington, Ohio
The Panthers earned their breakthrough victory in the 2025 Ohio high school football season against St. Ignatius. They will now host Pickerington Central, which won its first two games by 31 and 10 points, respectively. While Pickerington North has home field advantage, some Tigers supporters should be in attendance, given that the two schools are only 12 minutes away by car. This match could go either way, making it a worthy inclusion in this list.
