The high school football season continued in Ohio last week, as many of the top programs in the Great Lakes State were in action. Plenty of interesting results followed.

Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Ohio high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Sept. 21.

1. Archbishop Moeller Crusaders

The Crusaders reached the top of the Ohio high school football rankings after beating St. Xavier 30-13. Matt Ponatoski threw for 136 passing yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Tyler Josleyn (93 rushing yards, one touchdown) and Dante Ware (72 yards, one TD) powered Archbishop Moeller’s ground attack. Reggie Watson added 89 receiving yards and a touchdown. The Crusaders improved its record to 4-1 before facing La Salle on September 26.

2. Walsh Jesuit Warriors

The Warriors remain perfect after clinching their second consecutive shutout victory. The 38-0 victory over Canisius improved Walsh Jesuit’s points allowed average to 5.2 per game. They can maintain their unblemished record if they can defeat Archbishop Hoban on September 26.

3. Marion Local Flyers

The Flyers pushed its active winning streak to 69 games after a 40-7 domination of New Bremen. While the Cardinals kept the game close after one quarter, Marion Local closed the game with 24 unanswered points. Next on the Flyers’ schedule is a September 26 home game against Versailles.

4. Highland Hornets

For the fourth consecutive game, the Hornets have limited their opponent to single-digit scoring. In their 42-9 victory over Copley, Highland erased all doubts for a fifth consecutive victory by mounting a 42-0 halftime lead. The Hornets’ 2025 Ohio high school football season continues as they host Tallmadge on September 26.

5. St. Edward Eagles

The Eagles are still among Ohio’s top ten teams despite losing to Washington 21-14. From a 7-7 second-quarter tie, the Tigers surged to a 21-7 halftime lead and held on to victory. St. Edward can bounce back by defeating Maryland’s Bishop McNamara on September 27.

6. Anderson Raptors

The Raptors improved their record to 5-0 after a 49-24 domination of Kings. Owen Scalf had a massive game, finishing with 413 passing yards and seven touchdowns. Four of those scoring throws went to Tysin Weaver, who finished with 190 receiving yards. On defense, Antwoine Higgins led the way with eight tackles, including 1.5 sacks. Anderson can get their sixth consecutive victory if they can defeat Milford on September 26.

7. St. Xavier Bombers

The Bombers suffered their first loss in the 2025 Ohio high school football season. Despite the defeat, Jackson Frey deserves credit for his 150 passing yards and two touchdowns. Likewise, Brayden Reilly (8 solo tackles) and Ja’Kobe Clapper (6 solo tackles) paved the way on defense. St. Xavier can bounce back with a victory against Elder on September 26.

8. Bishop Watterson Eagles

The Eagles remain undefeated through five games after a one-sided victory against Harvest Preparatory School. This result marks the third consecutive game in which Bishop Watterson limited their opponent to single-game scoring. Next on their schedule is a September 26 road game against St. Francis de Sales.

9. Mentor Cardinals

In addition to maintaining their perfect record, the Cardinals earned their first shutout victory this season. In their 49-0 victory against Medina, Kent State commit Jackson Farley led the way with 102 rushing yards and three touchdowns. On defense, Jack Lisachenko had two sacks, while Carson Wolk had eight total tackles. Mentor can improve to 6-0 if they can defeat Cleveland Heights in their next game.

10. Elder Panthers

The Panthers surrendered 24 points to Kentucky’s St. Xavier, the most they’ve given five weeks into the 2025 Ohio high school football season. However, it wasn’t enough to stop them from improving to a 5-0 record. Elder can claim a 6-0 start with a victory against Ohio’s St. Xavier on September 26.
