Elder Panthers defensive back Jared Lammers (23) tackles St. Xavier Bombers wide receiver Logan Von Holle (19) in the second half of Division I regional final high school football game between the Elder Panthers and St. Xavier Bombers, Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, at Paycor Stadium in downtown Cincinnati. Bombers won 42-34.

In front of over 22,000 fans, which included members of FOX’s Big Noon Kick crew, St. Xavier would pull off a thriller in a Ohio high school football region final on Friday night against Elder.

The Bombers would overcome a 27-21 halftime deficit and hold the Panthers to just one second half touchdown, en route to a 42-34 win in the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Region 4 championship.

The contest between Elder (12-1) and St. Xavier (10-2) had attracted upwards of nearly 23,000 fans, with Barstool Sports CEO and founder Dave Portnoy hinting earlier in the week on his weekly college pick’em podcast show that he might be going be going to a gigantic Ohio high school football playoff game.

Portnoy along with others showed up and saw Elder close the game out with 21 unanswered points, with Daniel Vollmer scoring on touchdown runs of two yards each and quarterback Jackson Frye throwing an 8-yard strike to Logan Von Holle in the second half.

Elder’s only score of the second half came on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Kaden Estep to Jake Bier.

The Panthers entered the game ranked as the No. 1 team in Ohio, with the Bombers at No. 4. The two teams met during the regular season back on Sep. 26, with the Panthers edging out the Bombers, 23-13.
