Ohio High School Football Top 25 Rankings - Sept. 1

The high school football season continued in Ohio last week, as many of the Buckeye State’s top programs were in action. Plenty of interesting results followed.
Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for state championships. Below are the top 25 high school football teams in Ohio, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Sept. 1.
1. St. Edward Eagles
The Eagles began the 2025 Ohio high school football season with two victories in as many games. After opening their schedule with a shutout victory against Pickerington North, they had another home win against New Jersey’s Delbarton. Wide receiver Zack Hackleman returned to action after a season-ending injury and finished with seven catches for 114 receiving yards and three touchdowns. St. Edward will play at home for the third straight week, facing the Wayne Warriors on Sept. 5.
2. St. Xavier Bombers
The Bombers’ record remained spotless after two games, defeating Lakota West in the opener and Centerville last week. St. Xavier’s defense deserves special mention after shutting down the Elks offense for the first three quarters. Quarterback Jackson Frey completed two touchdown passes while Owen Davidson added two field goals in the 20-7 victory. After playing their first two games at home, the Bombers go on the road to face Indiana’s Cathedral Fighting Irish on Sept. 5.
3. Archbishop Moeller Crusaders
The Crusaders suffered a disappointing one-point loss to Mt. Carmel, Illinois’ top-ranked team. Despite the defeat, quarterback Matt Ponatoski threw for 287 yards and five touchdowns. Carson Khayo tallied 191 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while Ponatoski added 54 rushing yards. Archbishop Moeller will try to bounce back against Kentucky’s Trinity Shamrocks on Sept. 5.
4. Anderson Raptors
The Raptors remain unchallenged two games into the 2025 Ohio high school football season. After starting with a 52-10 victory over the Cooper Jaguars (Ky.), they followed it up with a 49-7 demolition of West Clermont. Quarterback Owen Scalf finished with 20 completions for 351 yards and three touchdowns, while Tegan Jallick had 125 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Anderson defense generated 13 tackles for losses and three sacks. The Raptors will try to maintain their undefeated record as they visit Little Miami on Sept. 5.
5. Walsh Jesuit Warriors
The Warriors could not care less about playing on the road to start the 2025 Ohio high school football season. After defeating Central Catholic in their season opener, Walsh Jesuit earned a 30-6 win over Springfield. Carrying a 2-0 record, the Warriors will play against St. Ignatius on Sept. 12.
