Ohio High School Football Top 25 Rankings - Sept. 16

Another weekend of the 2025 Ohio high school football season is in the books. After another round of games, St. Edward takes the number one spot in the top 25, while Hudson completes the list. Here’s how Massey ranked the best squads in the Buckeye State.
The Massey Rating system, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
1. St. Edward Eagles
The Eagles are the best team in Ohio high school football after picking up a 28-14 victory over Glenville. Brandon White compiled 173 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Zach Hackleman added 68 receiving yards and a TD. St. Edward’s defense was also on point with 7.5 tackles for losses, 4.5 sacks, and an interception from Maryland commit Makhi Boone. The Eagles can improve to 5-0 if they defeat Washington on September 19.
2. Archbishop Moeller Crusaders
The Crusaders improved to 3-1 following their 49-28 victory against Tennessee’s Christ Presbyterian Academy. Matt Ponatoski had a solid game, finishing with 25 completions for 297 passing yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, pass-catchers Reggie Watson and Cooper McCutchan finished with two receiving touchdowns each. Tyler Josleyn and Dante Ware each had one rushing touchdown. Archbishop Moeller hopes that their momentum will help them defeat St. Xavier on September 19.
3. St. Xavier Bombers
Through four games, the Bombers haven’t allowed any opponent to score double digits. What’s more impressive is that they’ve shut out Westerville North in their latest match, 28-0. St. Xavier started the game strong with 21 first-quarter points. That number consists of a 36-yard touchdown pass from Jackson Frey to Cameron Taylor, a TD off a blocked punt, and a rushing score by Spencer Stegbauer. Later in the game, Frey completed another scoring pass to Brayden Hyland. This week, the Bombers will visit Archbishop Moeller on September 19.
4. Walsh Jesuit Warriors
The Warriors reached the 30-point mark for the third straight game. Likewise, their 31-0 rout of St. Ignatius is the third time they’ve limited an opponent to single-digit scoring. Walsh Jesuit will continue the 2025 Ohio high school football season with a September 19 home game against Canisius.
5. Highland Hornets
The Hornets won their first four games by an average margin of 33 points. Their latest outing was a 34-point domination against Aurora, in which Highland scored 13 or more points in the first three quarters. The Hornets can improve to 5-0 with a victory against Copley on September 19.

6. Marion Local Flyers
The four-time defending Division 7 state champions made light work of St. John’s 61-0. Through four games, Marion Local has outscored its opponents, 201-14, including three shutouts. What’s more impressive is that the Flyers’ latest win against the Bluejays extended their winning streak to 68 games dating back to the 2021 season. The Flyers aim to keep their undefeated run going against New Bremen on September 19.
7. Anderson Raptors
The Raptors cruised to a 4-0 record after a 36-10 win against Lebanon. Owen Scalf threw for 399 passing yards and three touchdowns. Brody Poetter finished with 92 receiving yards, Brayden Moore tallied 82, and Tysin Weaver finished with 75 yards and three receiving TDs. Meanwhile, Jordan Davis was sensational, rushing for 96 yards, receiving 96 more, and scoring a touchdown. Anderson can get win number five in the 2025 Ohio high school football season against Kings on September 19.
8. Bishop Watterson Eagles
The Eagles soared over Columbian, 81-7. Bishop Watterson gained 324 yards on the ground, led by Jack McCoy’s 94 yards and two touchdowns. Tommy Rowlands also had two rushing touchdowns, while Dash Hoy added 78 yards and a rushing TD. Carter Bellisari had 76 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Ben Uhlenhake had a rushing and a punt return TD. The Eagles can earn their fifth win in as many games against Harvest Prep on September 19.
9. Mentor Cardinals
The Cardinals scored their fourth win in as many games after a 45-7 beatdown against Brunswick. Dominic Burns rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns, while Jackson Farley added 72 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Justen Hodge finished with 85 receiving yards and a touchdown. Mentor proceeds to their September 19 game against Medina.
10. Avon Eagles
The Eagles registered their third win in four games via a 55-7 demolition of North Ridgeville. Avon scored 14 or more points in the first three quarters and breached the 50-point mark for the first time in the 2025 Ohio high school football season. For their next games, the Eagles will host Olmsted Falls on September 19.
