Ohio High School Football Top 25 Rankings - Sept. 9

The high school football season kicked off in Ohio last week, and many of the top programs in the Great Lakes State were in action. Plenty of interesting results followed.
Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Ohio high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Sept. 9.
1. St. Xavier Bombers
The Bombers were successful in their first road game of the 2025 Ohio high school football season. They defeated Indiana’s Cathedral 24-6, which improves their record to 3-0. Likewise, their defense hasn’t allowed double-digit points in their games. St. Xavier can keep its perfect record by defeating Westerville North on September 12.
2. St. Edward Eagles
The Eagles picked up victories in their first three home games, including their 63-27 demolition of Wayne. St. Edward scored seven touchdowns in the first half, including a 90-yard opening kickoff return touchdown by Western Michigan commit Brodon Moore. The Eagles can improve to 4-0 with a victory over Glenville on September 12.
3. Archbishop Moeller Crusaders
After a heartbreaking one-point loss to Mount Carmel last week, the Crusaders redeemed themselves via a 24-21 win over Trinity. Quarterback Matt Ponatoski finished with 23 completions out of 28 attempts for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Tyler Josleyn had 12 carries for 81 rushing yards, while Reggie Watson collected 12 receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown. Archbishop Moeller will have their first road game this season against Tennessee’s Christ Presbyterian Academy on September 12.
4. Anderson Raptors
The Raptors have reached the 50-point mark for the second time in three games. In their 50-7 domination against Little Miami, Owen Scalf had 226 passing yards, 78 rushing yards, and three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing). Running back Jordan Davis added two rushing scores, while Cooper Kathman had 82 receiving yards and a touchdown. Anderson can maintain their perfect start to the 2025 Ohio high school football season against Lebanon on September 12.
5. Walsh Jesuit Warriors
The Warriors’ first home game in 2025 was a success, dominating Clarkson North 30-6. Walsh Jesuit scored all its points in the first half and did not allow its opponents to score until the fourth quarter. After this victory, the Warriors will play another road game against St. Ignatius on September 12.
6. Highland Hornets
The Hornets are now at 3-0 after a 34-7 win against Avon Lake. A 27-point second-quarter explosion by Highland placed the game away for good. After a road victory against the Shoremen, the Hornets will welcome Aurora at home on September 12.
7. Marion Local Flyers
The Flyers surrendered some points for the first time in the 2025 Ohio high school football season. However, they still won against St. Henry, keeping them undefeated after three games. A 35-yard touchdown pass to Cale Nagel proved to be the winning score in the 21-14 contest. Marion Local will face St. John’s on September 12
8. Bishop Watterson Eagles
The Eagles had their most comfortable victory early in the 2025 season. Bishop Watterson completed a 38-0 shutout win against Westerville North, giving them a 3-0 record. Likewise, they have defeated the Warriors for a second consecutive year. Bishop Watterson will play Columbian on September 12.

9. Mentor Cardinals
The Cardinals picked up another win last week, defeating St. Ignatius 35-21. Quarterback Brogan Jones threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns, while Jackson Farley completed 27 carries for 151 yards and two touchdowns. Miami (Ohio) commit Justen Hodge collected six receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Mentor’s defense generated seven tackles for losses, three sacks, and an interception. The Cardinals can go to 4-0 by defeating Brunswick on the road next Friday, September 12.
10. Lakota West Firebirds
The Firebirds earned their second consecutive victory via a 38-6 blowout against Hamilton. Lakota West has won 11 of its last 13 games dating back to last season. They will proceed to a road game against Princeton on September 12.
