The second week of the Pennsylvania high school football season features a slate of compelling matchups. This weekend offers a clash of titans, with three top-10 showdowns highlighting the schedule. The slate also features a five-star running back looking to build on a dazzling opening week performance, and one of Pennsylvania’s top teams heading to Maryland for a highly anticipated interstate battle.

No. 1 La Salle College Prep vs. No. 3 Malvern Prep

When: Friday, Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. ET
Where: Carey Stadium, Ocean City, N.J.

The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Explorers. A week after dismantling No. 4 Central Catholic, La Salle College will take on Malvern Prep in their annual Battle at the Beach matchup. The Explorers own a 9-6 advantage in the all-time series but the Friars have won two of the last three.

Massey Prediction: La Salle College 23, Malvern Prep 20

No. 4 Central Catholic vs. No. 6 Pine-Richland

When: Friday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. ET
Where: Gesling Stadium, Pittsburgh, Pa.

The Vikings head into Friday’s matchup with Pine-Richland looking to bounce back from a disappointing opener against La Salle College Prep. For the Rams, this represents their first of just two games against ranked opponents on their schedule. A win would go a long way in pushing them higher in the Pennsylvania high school football rankings, while a loss would leave them with few meaningful opportunities for statement wins.

Massey Prediction: Central Catholic 30, Pine-Richland 20

No. 10 Peters Township at No. 21 McKeesport

When: Friday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. ET
Where: Weigle-Schaeffer Stadium, McKeesport, Pa.

Peters Township‘s run defense will be tested early and often on Friday night. McKeesport‘s five-star junior phenom Kemon Spell rushed for 295 yards and four touchdowns in the team’s 51-24 win over Delaware Valley last week.

Massey Prediction: Peters Township 31, McKeesport 21

No. 5 Harrisburg vs. No. 8 Bishop McDevitt

When: Saturday, Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. ET
Where: Severance Field, Harrisburg, Pa.

Bishop McDevitt is still smarting from its upset loss to Canada’s Clarkson Football North last week, which makes the Crusaders an especially dangerous opponent for Harrisburg this weekend. This matchup will feature three of the top running back prospects in Pennsylvania high school football with Nazir Jones-Davis and Jerome Larue lining up for Bishop McDevitt and Messiah Mickens making plays for Harrisburg.

No. 2 St. Joseph’s Prep School vs. DeMatha Catholic (Md.)

When: Saturday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. ET
Where: Abessinio Stadium, Wilmington, Del.

This is one of the top interstate matchups of the weekend, featuring the second-ranked Pennsylvania high school football team and Maryland’s third-ranked squad. The last time we saw St. Joseph’s Prep, the Hawks were blowing a 28-point lead against American Heritage. DeMatha Catholic will likely get their best shot this weekend.

Massey Prediction: St. Joseph’s Prep School 30, DeMatha Catholic 20
