Pennsylvania High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Oct. 20

The Pennsylvania high school football season is entering its final week, as many of the top programs in the Keystone State will be in action.
La Salle College remains the No. 1 team in the state after a 54-17 win over Cardinal O’Hara. Following the Explorers in the ranks is Central Catholic, St. Joseph’s Prep School, Malvern Prep and Peters Township, respectively.
Which other Pennsylvania high school football teams make the list in our latest set of Top 25 rankings heading into the last week of the regular season?
The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
Here is the latest Pennsylvania high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Oct. 20.
1. La Salle College (7-1)
The La Salle College Explorers just edges out Central Catholic for the top spot in the state of Pennsylvania after they cruised to a 54-17 win over Cardinal O’Hara last week.
The Explorers has bounced back nicely after Sep. 26’s loss to Roman Catholic, 39-36, now having won three games in a row.
Senior quarterback Gavin Sidwar, a Missouri commit, 20 of 34 for 324 yards and four touchdowns in a 31-20 win over No. 4 St. Joseph’s Prep School back on Oct. 4.
Next up for the Explorers is a road matchup against Father Judge (3-6).
2. Central Catholic (8-1)
Make it eight-straight victories for the Vikings, with the team rolling to a 48-6 romp over Seneca Valley. Central Catholic has been one of the state’s hottest teams as they’ve won eight consecutive wins since losing to La Salle College at the beginning of the season.
Vikings’ sophomore quarterback Owen Herrick, who completed 104 of 186 passes for 1,514 yards, 11 touchdowns and one interception. Another player that has had a strong season for Central Catholic is junior running back Roman Thompson, who has rushed for 616 yards and 20 touchdowns.
3. St. Joseph’s Prep School (4-4)
The St. Joseph’s Prep School Hawks were coming off a 31-20 loss to No. 1 La Salle College a few weeks ago and needed to bounce back and now has won consecutive games.
Hawks were able to get back into the win column when they just squeaked by Roman Catholic, 40-39, last week. Playing a national schedule certainly has impacted the overall win/loss record for the team, but make no mistake that this is still one of Pennsylvania’s top high school football teams.
St. Joseph’s Prep looks to make it three straight victories this week when they take on Cardinal O’Hara (5-3) at Franklin Field.
4. Malvern Prep (6-1)
After starting the Pennsylvania high school football season with a loss to La Salle College over in Ocean City, New Jersey, Malvern Prep has reeled off six straight victories since then and is on a roll heading into the final week.

The Friars are coming off a 48-11 thumping of Haverford School, leaving them now sitting at 6-1 with three contests to go against Episcopal Academy, William Penn Charter and Springside Chestnut Hill Academy.
5. Peters Township (9-0)
Making their way into the Top 5 that wasn’t in from a week ago are the Peters Township Indians (9-0), which are coming off a 61-0 rout of Baldwin.
The Indians feature multiple Division I recruits on the team, including seniors Reston Lehman (Pittsburgh commit) and Lucas Shanafelt (Stanford commit).
Peters Township has a chance to finish off the regular season undefeated at 10-0 when they welcome Bethel Park (7-2) into town.
