The high school football season continued in Pennsylvania last week, as many of the top programs in the Keystone State were in action. Results varied across the board, with St. Joseph’s Prep losing in a hotly contested matchup against nationally ranked St. Frances Academy of Maryland.

Undefeated La Salle College heads up the rankings, but what other teams around the state made the cut this week?

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the latest Pennsylvania high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Sep. 16.

1. La Salle College Explorers

La Salle College (4-0) maintains their footing at the top of this week’s Pennsylvania high school football rankings as they are coming off a dominating a 48-7 rout of Calvert Hall College. The Explorers have been the state’s most consistent dominant force this season as they have raced out to four straight victories. A big reason for that has been the overall play of senior three-star quarterback Gavin Sidwar (Missouri commit), who has led the offensive charge. The team features a pair of Notre Dame commitments in safety Joey O’Brien and offensive tackle Grayson McKeogh. The Explorers are idle this week before they take the field once again on Sep. 26 when they face off against Roman Catholic (2-2).

2. Malvern Prep Friars

Both special teams and defense were major question marks after Malvern Prep‘s season-opening loss to La Salle College, and the Friars were significantly better in both areas during their 29-0 win over Delbarton (N.J.) the following week. Malvern Prep rolled to a 35-7 victory over Imhotep Institute and look to keep the momentum going this week against Salesianum (Delaware).

3. Central Catholic Vikings

Central Catholic made quick work of Mt. Lebanon, cruising to a 57-0 victory. Sophomore quarterback Owen Herrick through four games completing 46 of 88 passes for 722 yards, six touchdowns. The Vikings return to play this week on Friday against Hempfield Area (3-1).

4. St. Joseph’s Prep School Hawks

The St. Joseph’s Prep School Hawks (0-3) have not registered a win this season, but all three of their games have come against some of the best high school football programs in the land. St. Joseph’s Prep latest loss came against St. Frances Academy, the top-ranked team in Maryland, at Franklin Field. Sophomore four-star wide receiver Jett Harrison went off, scoring four touchdowns against the nationally ranked Panthers. St. Joseph Prep School faces off against Good Counsel (Md.) this week.

5. Harrisburg Cougars

Harrisburg (4-0) drops down to No. 5 in the Pennsylvania high school rankings after defeating Chambersburg Area, a 49-6 win. Mikal Shanks Jr. has played well behind center, completing 37 of 57 passes for 518 yards and six touchdowns. Harrisburg’s schedule really opens up from here and it’s not a stretch to think this team could roll through the regular season undefeated. The Cougars this week return home to face Cedar Cliff.
