Pennsylvania high school football running back Nazir Jones-Davis had a breakout season for the Bishop McDevitt Crusaders. During his junior year, he finished with 1,657 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns.

That number includes eight games with at least 100 yards and a 221-yard performance against Pine-Richland. Meanwhile, Jones-Davis’ domination from the backfield helped the Crusaders finish with a 14-2 record and earn the Class 5A state championship over Roman Catholic. Likewise, Bishop McDevitt finished the season fifth in the Pennsylvania Massey Ratings.

Collecting those impressive totals, coupled with his 978 yards and ten touchdowns during his sophomore season, had Jones-Davis being compared to Bishop McDevitt alum LeSean McCoy. Jones-Davis referenced the two-time Super Bowl champion when he appeared on PennLive’s PA High School Football Report.

“I’m coming for that Shady McCoy record,” Jones-Davis said. Whether he’s joking or not, it would be a tall order to match the six-time Pro Bowler’s Pennsylvania high school football numbers. In his final year with Bishop McDevitt, Jones-Davis would need at least 4,109 rushing yards to match McCoy’s 6,654.

Before becoming a two-time All-Pro running back, McCoy dominated Pennsylvania high school football with back-to-back 2,000-yard seasons. He had 2,561 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2003 and 2,828 yards and 31 touchdowns the following year. What’s more impressive is that McCoy had 889 rushing yards and ten touchdowns in only four games during his senior year.

While their Pennsylvania high school football stints are nearly two decades apart, the Eastern Michigan commit revealed that he met McCoy at his game against the Harrisburg Cougars, wherein he had 21 carries for 149 yards. “I was walking towards the car, and he had beeped a horn to me, and he was just talking to me about that Harrisburg game, I should have got it boiled like 30 times. We were just chopping it up, joking around.”

Jones-Davis and McCoy might have shared a light moment. However, for the incoming senior, hearing positive words from a legend boosts his confidence. After all, he’s receiving kind words from a member of the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team and a one-time rushing yards leader.

That motivation from McCoy had Jones-Davis boldly declaring that his junior year was just a warmup.
