According to a report by the Erie Times-News, a Pennsylvania high school football program has decided to opt out of playing district championship game that would be considered to be apart of the postseason.

Per a report, Erie High School has decided to opt out of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Class 6A playoffs, deciding to not play for the District 10 championship game due to a lack of healthy players.

“Coach (Andre) Henderson let me know that due to a lack of healthy players that we have to opt out,” Erie High athletic director Dale Mills said via the report. “He is looking out for the welfare of the players.”

The Royals were going to be 1-9 heading into the district title tilt against McDowell, which is 2-7 on the season themselves. Erie’s lone victory of the 2025 season came against Franklin back on Sep. 27, with the Royals winning 48-7.

The District 10 championship game was slated to be played on Oct. 31 at Edinboro University, according to the report.
