Pennsylvania high school football team with 7-2 record cancels rest of 2025 season

Coming off just their second loss of the 2025 campaign with one game to go and a 7-2 record, a Pennsylvania high school football team has decided to cancel the remainder of their season.
According to a Facebook post by the Mount Union Area (Pa.) football team on Monday, the decision was made due to injuries and a depleted roster of players.
Per a WTAJ report, Trojans’ head coach Jamie Brumbaugh confirmed the canceling of the rest of the Pennsylvania high school football season and told the outlet that the team only had 11-12 players available to practice just last week.

Here is the statement in the post made by the Trojans’ football program on Monday:
“Due to a combination of injuries and a significantly depleted roster, Mount Union Varsity Football will not compete in the remaining games of the 2025 season. This difficult decision was made with the health and safety of our student-athletes as our top priority.
We are incredibly proud of the effort, resilience, and commitment shown by our players and coaching staff this year. Thank you to our families, fans, and community for your unwavering support. We look forward to returning stronger next season.“
The Trojans were coming off a 51-28 loss to Claysburg-Kimmel last week, but had started off the Pennsylvania high school football season with a 7-1 record and the only other losing decision came back on Aug. 29 to Berlin Brothersvalley, 28-14. Mount Union had one game remaining this week against Meyersdale Area, a team they lost to in 2024.
Last season, Mount Union finished with an 8-3 record and were averaging 30.2 points per game.
