While the state has the smallest land area, Rhode Island high school football boasts a passionate following that is ready for the upcoming campaign. From perennial contenders to plucky upstarts, here are the top 25 teams in the Ocean State according to Massey.

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

1. Bishop Hendricken Hawks

After splitting their first four games, the Hawks won four of their next six games, including the Rhode Island high school football Division 1 state championship match against La Salle Academy.

Bishop Hendricken’s quest for a three-peat will start on September 5 against North Kingstown. Wide receiver Sebastian Lora, linebacker Okah Wali, and athlete Jabari Jackson will lead the way for the Hawks.

2. La Salle Academy Rams

The Rams’ 2024-25 season ended with a loss to Bishop Hendricken in the Rhode Island high school football Division 1 state championship game. La Salle Academy returns to action against New York’s Chaminade Flyers on August 30.

3. North Kingstown Skippers

After losing three of their first four games, the Skippers didn’t skip a beat and won their next six matches. That streak includes their victory over Burrillville in the Rhode Island high school football Division 1 Bowl Game. North Kingston will begin their 2025-26 campaign against Bishop Hendricken on September 5.

4. Cumberland Clippers

The Clippers capped off their 2024-25 Rhode Island high school football season with a loss to Bishop Hendricken in the Division 1 semifinal round. Cumberland will begin the 2025-26 season versus Barrington on September 12.

5. Central Knights

After starting the season with a 1-3 record, the Knights had a respectable 5-6 finish after Burrillville defeated them twice in 13 days. Central begins its 2025-26 season against Massachusetts’ Milton High School on September 12.
