Report: Gadsden County (Fla.) football has yet to name interim HC

Amid the chaos of Gadsden County’s start of the 2025 season and receiving the news of former head coach Russell Ellington bolting for the college ranks, the Jaguars have yet to name a replacement to head their football program as of yet.
According to a report by WCTV’s Alison Posey, Gadsden County is currently practicing without an official interim head coach, with the team averaging 20-25 players at practice. The school plans on naming a interim head coach in the coming weeks as they regroup and look to finish out the 2025 season.
The Jaguars were projected, prior to the sanctions handed down by the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA), to compete for the Class 2A state championship after reaching the title game in 2024.
Gadsden County (0-1) dropped its season opener on the road in Georgia against Tift County and on Wednesday officially canceled their contest versus No. 20 East St. Louis, which was to be played in Illinois.

According to Posey, Gadsden County assistant Travis Gordon has been running practices as the team recently ended up backing out of the game versus No. 20 East St. Louis game due to a lack of players traveling for the trip. Report when on to state that Gordon is trying to build morale back up and plan to play their Sep. 12 road game against Coffee (Ga.).
Ellington stepped down as the program’s lead man ahead of the 2025 season and accepted an assistant job at Savannah State, going 18-7 in his first two seasons as the Jaguars’ head coach. Prior to the sanctions, Ellington had a team on paper that looked prepared to return to the Class 2A state championship game this December.
