Rivals National High School Football Composite Rankings - Sept. 17

The fourth set of Rivals National High School Football Composite Rankings of the season have been released, with the Mater Dei Monarchs for the first time this season not ranked at the top and rival St. John Bosco Braves now sits atop at No. 1, respectively. Right behind St. John Bosco is Bishop Gorman, which faces Mater Dei this Friday night in Sin City.
Below are the top-25 teams in the Rivals National High School Football Composite Rankings, a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected media and data companies. It includes Massey, MaxPreps, ESPN and SI, creating the industry’s most comprehensive and geographically balanced ranking.
1. St. John Bosco Braves (Calif.)
For the first time this season, a team not named Mater Dei is at the top. The Braves (4-0) have been nothing less than impressive through the first four weeks of the season, with impressive wins over St. Frances Academy (Md.) and Manatee (Fla.), respectively. Texas A&M commit Madden Williams has been terrific for St. John Bosco this season, catching 13 passes for 331 yards and four touchdowns. Looking at the landscape of high school football around the country, if St. John Bosco and Mater Dei can head into their Halloween meeting both inside of the Top 5, the game would certainly hold national championship implications. The Braves continue their home stand this week when they welcome Hawaii’s top-ranked St. Louis into town on Friday night.
2. Bishop Gorman Gaels (Nev.)
Bishop Gorman (4-0) flexes their national dominance once again last week against East St. Louis, rolling to a 35-10 victory. The Gaels are a viable threat to upend No. 8 Mater Dei this week, especially that Bishop Gorman routed Kahuku 38-0, a team that Monarchs narrowly edged by three points. Hawaii commitment Maika Eugenio has been dealing through the first several games, throwing for 1,044 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season. It seems like a forgone conclusion that the Gaels are destined to win another Nevada state championship. It looks like a showdown with Mater Dei on Friday night will decide a lot down the stretch when it comes to the all mythical high school football national champion.
3. Grayson Rams (Ga.)
Grayson (4-0) a few weeks ago received terrible news ahead of their highly anticipated matchup against Alabama powerhouse Thompson that senior quarterback Travis Burgess (North Carolina commit) would be out for the remainder of the 2025 high school football season due to injury. All the Rams have gone out and done is weather the storm against Thompson and last week in a 63-13 rout of Mallard Creek (N.C.). Junior signal caller Deuce Smith has taken the controls of the offense for Grayson and has played admirably behind center. The Rams had last week off and this Friday gear up for a road trip over to Grovetown this week.
4. St. Frances Academy Panthers (Md.)
St. Frances Academy (2-1) arguably the most impressive team after the first major weekend of high school football, as they cruised to a 42-13 thrashing of Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Fla) at the Broward County Classic. The Panthers’ lone loss this season came when they traveled across the country to take on No. 1 St. John Bosco and narrowly lost in a 21-14 decision. The loss previously dropped St. Frances Academy down four spots to No. 6. St. Frances Academy bounced back with a 34-26 win over previously nationally ranked St. Joseph’s Prep School (0-3), who has also lost to American Heritage (Fla.) and DeMatha Catholic (Md.), respectively.
5. IMG Academy Ascenders (Fla.)
The IMG Academy (3-0) have been the most dominant, consistent football program out of the state of Florida, picking up convincing win one after another. The Ascenders have already played three quality programs to start the high school football season with a scrimmage against The First Academy and their opener against Hoover (Ala.), winning both by more than 30 points. IMG Academy has leaned mightily on the abilities of Lekhy Thompkins (Louisville commit) on the ground as first-year head coach Greg Studrawa looks to dominate teams in the trenches. The Ascenders are coming off a 79-6 thrashing of Coronado (Nevada) and stay within the Sunshine State this week when they take on Mandarin (Fla.).
6. Buford Wolves (Ga.)
Buford’s (4-0) has had arguably one of the most impressive starts of any Georgia team this 2025 high school football season because of the programs they’ve faced. First up was a meeting with No. 18 Milton, with the Wolves coming away with a 20-13 victory on national television. The Wolves then hit the road to Savannah to face a very good Benedictine Military School squad and won by multiple scores. Last week’s 65-21 rout of Roswell leaves many wondering if Buford could be the team to beat for Georgia’s Class 6A state championship when it’s all said and done. This past week, the Wolves took on another state title contender, Douglas County, and came away with a 34-26 win. This week the Wolves will take on Discovery.
7. Duncanville Panthers (Texas)
Duncanville (1-0) finally started their high school football season a couple weeks ago when they defeated an upset-minded South Oak Cliff, 35-28. The Panthers are coming off a 2024 campaign in which they fell short of winning last year’s UIL Class 6A, Division I state championship and now are on a mission to get back to the title game at AT&T Stadium come December. To do so, they’ll need to rely on a talented defensive front seven, led by 6-foot-3, 245-pound senior defensive end Kevin Ford (Florida commit), who tallied 57 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and seven sacks last fall. Duncanville is coming off a bye week and takes the field this Friday night against Waxahachie.
8. Mater Dei Monarchs (Calif.)
Mater Dei (3-1) for the first time this season are not the No. 1 team in the land. Actually, it’s the first time in a long while. The Monarchs had edged out St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) at the Broward County High School Football Classic down in Fort Lauderdale, pulling off a 26-23 victory to start the 2025 season. The Monarchs had to do it again a couple weeks ago in a 21-18 win over Kahuku (Hawaii). Raul Lara’s group didn’t have a game a few weeks ago due to Bishop Montgomery canceling their scheduled matchup due to a lack of eligible players. Looking at the Monarchs’ upcoming schedule, there’s little rest for the weary and they play arguably the most difficult 2025 slate of any high school football team in the country. Now the most important game of the season for Monarchs is this Friday in Las Vegas against No. 2 Bishop Gorman definitely catches any high school football fan’s eye.

9. North Crowley Panthers (Texas)
North Crowley (3-0) has had themselves a few close calls to start the season against Lancaster, DeSoto and now Guyer. The Panthers just got by Lancaster in a 22-18 decision, then in a weather-delayed meeting with DeSoto, came away with a 36-27 victory and barely beat out Guyer, 28-27. Needless to say, this isn’t your North Crowley team of a year ago. The concern behind center might’ve been answered, however, as DeMarcus Harris showed moxie in the victory over the Eagles. North Crowley’s defensive secondary sets them apart from mostly everyone in Texas, with the back end featuring Aaron Bradshaw (Texas Tech commit), three-star safety Elijajuan Houston, four-star cornerback Jerry Outhouse and Thomas Cook (Colorado State commit). The Panthers this week are back at the friendly confines of home against Rockwall on Thursday night.
10. Corner Canyon (Utah)
The Corner Canyon Chargers (5-0) have been simply dominant every time they’ve taken the field and last week was another indicator of how good Corner Canyon has been this season was a 45-14 dismantling of Arizona’s Liberty Lions. Helaman Casuga (Texas A&M commitment) might be playing his best football of his high school career, with the signal caller having completed 76 of 120 passes for 1,411 yards, 16 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Next up for the Chargers this week is a meeting with Lone Peak, Utah’s No. 2 ranked team.
