Rivals National High School Football Composite Rankings - Sept. 9

The third set of Rivals National High School Football Composite Rankings of the season have been released, with the Mater Dei Monarchs and rival St. John Bosco Braves now atop at No. 1-2, respectively. If the top two spots remain true throughout the season, the Monarchs and Braves are set to meet on Halloween.
Below are the top-25 teams in the Rivals National High School Football Composite Rankings, a proprietary algorithm that compiles rankings listed in the public domain by respected media and data companies. It includes Massey, MaxPreps, ESPN and SI, creating the industry’s most comprehensive and geographically balanced ranking.
1. Mater Dei Monarchs (Calif.)
Mater Dei (3-0) had edged out St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) at the Broward County High School Football Classic down in Fort Lauderdale, pulling off a 26-23 victory to start the season. The Monarchs had to do it again last week in a 21-18 win over Kahuku (Hawaii). Raul Lara’s group didn’t have a game a couple weeks ago due to Bishop Montgomery canceling their scheduled matchup due to a lack of eligible players. Looking at the Monarchs’ upcoming schedule, there’s little rest for the weary and they play arguably the most difficult 2025 slate of any high school football team in the country. A Sep. 19 meeting in Las Vegas against No. 2 Bishop Gorman definitely catches our eye.
2. Bishop Gorman Gaels (Nev.)
Bishop Gorman (3-0) are coming off a shortened 35-14 win over Lone Peak (Utah) after officials called the contest due to a Nevada state rule regarding three or more players leaving the sideline area. The Gaels are a viable threat to upend top-ranked Mater Dei, especially that Bishop Gorman routed Kahuku 38-0, a team that Monarchs narrowly edged by three points. Hawaii commitment Maika Eugenio has been dealing through the first two games, throwing for well over 300 yards on the season. It seems like a forgone conclusion that the Gaels are destined to win another Nevada state championship, but the goal in mind is to somehow seek a path towards the all mythical national championship. It looks like a showdown with Mater Dei Sept. 19 will decide who is the country’s No. 1 team.
3. St. John Bosco Braves (Calif.)
The Braves before facing St. Frances Academy last week had been nothing less than dominant in wins over Manatee (Fla.) and Eastwood (Texas) defeating the two teams by a combined score of 97-7. Texas A&M commit Madden Williams was terrific in the win over the Panthers, catching eight passes for 193 yards and a touchdown. Looking at the landscape of high school football around the country, if St. John Bosco and Mater Dei can head into their Halloween meeting both undefeated, the game would certainly have national championship implications. The Braves continue their home stand this week when they welcome Junipero Serra into town.
4. Grayson Rams (Ga.)
Grayson (4-0) a couple weeks ago received terrible news ahead of their highly anticipated matchup against Alabama powerhouse Thompson that senior quarterback Travis Burgess (North Carolina commit) would be out for the remainder of the 2025 high school football season due to injury. All the Rams have gone out and done is weather the storm against Thompson and last week in a 63-13 rout of Mallard Creek (N.C.). Junior signal caller Deuce Smith has taken the controls of the offense for Grayson and has played admirably. The Rams take the week off this Friday before gearing up for a road trip over to Grovetown next week.
5. Duncanville Panthers (Texas)
Duncanville (1-0) finally started their high school football season last week when they defeated an upset-minded South Oak Cliff, 35-28. The Panthers are coming off a 2024 campaign in which they fell short of winning last year’s UIL Class 6A, Division I state championship and now are on a mission to get back to the title game at AT&T Stadium come December. To do so, they’ll need to rely on a talented defensive front seven, led by 6-foot-3, 245-pound senior defensive end Kevin Ford (Florida commit), who tallied 57 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and seven sacks last fall. Duncanville has another bye week before taking the field again on Sep. 19 against Waxahachie.
6. St. Frances Academy Panthers (Md.)
St. Frances Academy (1-1) arguably the most impressive team of the first major weekend of high school football, as they cruised to a 42-13 thrashing of Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Fla) at the Broward County Classic. The Panthers traveled across the country last week to take on No. 3 St. John Bosco and narrowly lost in a 21-14 decision. The loss drops St. Frances Academy down four spots to No. 6 this week, but the Panthers have no time to wallow as they take on previously nationally ranked St. Joseph’s Prep School (0-2), who has lost to American Heritage (Fla.) and DeMatha Catholic (Md.), respectively.
7. IMG Academy Ascenders (Fla.)
The IMG Academy (2-0) had somewhat of a scare during the second and third quarters against Winslow Township, as the Eagles came to within 21-14 of the Ascenders before pulling away with a 35-14 win a couple weeks ago. The Ascenders have already played three quality programs to start the high school football season with a scrimmage against The First Academy and their opener against Hoover (Ala.), winning both by more than 30 points. IMG Academy has leaned mightily on the abilities of Lekhy Thompkins (Louisville commit) on the ground as first-year head coach Greg Studrawa looks to dominate teams in the trenches. The Ascenders are coming off a bye week and are set to travel out west to face Coronado (Nevada).
8. Buford Wolves (Ga.)
Buford’s (3-0) has had arguably one of the most impressive starts of any Georgia team this 2025 high school football season because of the programs they’ve faced. First up was a meeting with No. 18 Milton, with the Wolves coming away with a 20-13 victory on national television. The Wolves then hit the road to Savannah to face a very good Benedictine Military School squad and won by multiple scores. Last week’s 65-21 rout of Roswell leaves many wondering if Buford could be the team to beat for Georgia’s Class 6A state championship when it’s all said and done. This week, the Wolves have another primetime matchup when they take on another title contender, Douglas County, on Friday night.

9. Corner Canyon (Utah)
Well look who’s back inside of the Top 10 of the rankings. The Chargers (4-0) have been simply dominant every time they’ve taken the field and last week was another indicator of how good Corner Canyon has been this season in a 45-14 dismantling of Arizona’s Liberty Lions. Helaman Casuga (Texas A&M commitment) might be playing his best football of his high school career, with the signal caller having completed 55 of 94 passes for 1,122 yards, 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Next up for the Chargers this week is a meeting with Brighton (1-3) at home.
10. North Crowley Panthers (Texas)
North Crowley (2-0) has had themselves a couple of close calls to start the season against Lancaster and DeSoto. The Panthers just got by Lancaster in a 22-18 decision and then in a weather-delayed meeting with DeSoto, came away with a 36-27 victory. Needless to say, this isn’t your North Crowley team of a year ago. The concern behind center might’ve been answered, however, as DeMarcus Harris showed moxie in the victory over the Eagles. North Crowley’s defensive secondary sets them apart from mostly everyone in Texas, with the back end featuring Aaron Bradshaw (Texas Tech commit), three-star safety Elijajuan Houston, four-star cornerback Jerry Outhouse and Thomas Cook (Colorado State commit). The Panthers this week on Texas’ No. 20 ranked Guyer at home.
