During his redshirt freshman season at Penn State, placekicker Ryan Barker converted 83.3 percent of his field-goal attempts. That is the third-highest single-season mark in Nittany Lions history. In addition to making 15 of 18 field goal tries, he missed only one extra point out of 49 attempts.

These numbers earned him a spot on the All-Big Ten honorable mention roster. Meanwhile, he became the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after converting four field goals, including the game-winner, against USC.

While Ryan Barker is having success in college football, he never forgot the school that helped him reach his dreams. This time, he is giving back by sponsoring a scholarship at his alma mater, Kennett High School.

Barker posted on X (formerly Twitter) last May 23, “Being able to give back to my alma mater, Kennett High School, means everything to me. This scholarship will benefit one Kennett High School Football placekicker, punter, or long snapper each year to attend a Kohl’s Kicking Camp.” He also announced Miles Gwynn as this year’s recipient.

According to their official website, “Kohl’s Kicking, Punting, and Long Snapping Camps provides the single biggest stage for kickers, punters, and long snappers in America and is the most trusted evaluation resource by college coaches. The Kohl’s Kicking program is chosen by elite NFL, collegiate, and high school specialists for training and exposure.”

The camp has a year-long schedule with stops in almost every state in the United States. These trainings have helped the likes of Ryan Barker make the successful jump from high school to college football.

Meanwhile, the wisdom that Gwynn will get from Kohl’s Kicking Camp could help Kennett improve from their 6-4 record last season. After starting at 1-3, the Blue Demons won five consecutive games before losing their season finale to Garnet Valley.
