The son of former NBA player Juan Dixon will be making a shift for his junior high school basketball season. Corey Dixon will be transferring from Maryland’s Our Lady of Good Counsel High School to Bishop O’Connell.

O’Connell Basketball’s official X account posted this to officially welcome the 6-foot-2 combo guard.

Leading the Knights’ high school basketball program is Joe Wooten, son of Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Morgan Wooten. The older Wooten turned DeMatha High School into a national powerhouse and coached former NBA players Adrian Dantley and Danny Ferry.

Corey Dixon will form a solid backcourt with senior Darius Bivins. As 247Sports’ Colby Giacubeno tweeted, Bivins and Dixon played together against Sidwell Friends, helping O’Connell win by eight points. In addition to O’Connell, the younger Dixon also plays for the Team Melo AAU basketball team.

The junior guard hopes to follow in his father’s footsteps. Juan Dixon played for Calvert Hall High School before committing to Maryland. He led the Terrapins to the 2002 NCAA National Championship and was the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player.

The Washington Wizards selected him in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft, and Dixon ended up playing seven seasons for four teams. After the Wizards, Dixon also played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Toronto Raptors, and Detroit Pistons. He returned to Washington for his final NBA season (2008). After which, he played professionally in Greece, Spain, and Turkey.

After his playing career, Juan Dixon coached the District of Columbia women’s basketball team for 11 years. He transitioned to Coppin State, a college basketball program he guided for six years.
