With one round of action left before the state tournament, the South Carolina On3 Massey Ratings top 25 list as of Nov. 5 features relatively the same teams from the previous ranking. Some top South Carolina high school football teams will cross paths in the playoffs with the state championship in mind. Here’s how the squads fare after the game during the first weekend of November.

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory. According to the model, two teams from South Carolina rank inside the nationwide top 100.

1. Dutch Fork

No team has come close to defeating the Silver Foxes this season. They improved to 8-0 after a dominant road victory over River Bluff. Ethan Offing finished with 417 passing yards and four touchdowns, while Boykin Bickley had 187 receiving yards and a TD. The 22nd-best squad in the country will put its undefeated record on the line against third-ranked Irmo on Nov. 8.

2. Northwestern

The Trojans maintained their spot as the best offensive team in South Carolina high school football by handily defeating Indian Land on the road. They’ve never scored below 45 points in their wins and exceeded 60 points twice. The 28th-best team in the nation will likely play in the state playoffs starting on Nov. 16, and they will now wait for the pairings to determine their opponent.

3. Irmo

The Yellow Jackets improved to 9-0 by scoring a season-high 55 points against Chapin. Aaron Brand was a one-person wrecking crew, throwing for five touchdowns while adding 263 rushing yards and three scores from the ground. However, Irmo faces its most challenging test in top-ranked Dutch Fork on the 8th.

4. Spartanburg

The Vikings extended their winning streak to six games after a road victory over Riverside. That victory marks their second consecutive 50-point game after their 58-point explosion against Byrnes. Next on Spartanburg’s schedule is a trip to eighth-ranked Gaffney on Nov. 8.

5. Westside

The Rams are at 8-0 after scoring a season-high 56 points in their home victory over Wren. That output improved their scoring average to 48.1 points per game, making them the third-best offense in South Carolina high school football. Westside will host the Southside Tigers in their final game before the state tournament.

6. Summerville

The Green Wave ended with a 10-0 record after a road victory against Fort Dorchester. Jaden Cummings and Jayven Williams combined for 207 rushing yards and six touchdowns against the Patriots. Summerville will likely proceed to the state tournament and is waiting for the official bracket to determine its opponent.

7. South Pointe

After losing to Northwestern, the Stallions collected six consecutive victories, capped off by their road win against Richland Northeast. Cam McMillion had 273 passing yards and four touchdowns, while Mason Pickett-Hicks had 187 rushing yards and two touchdowns. South Pointe’s 8-2 record should be enough to give them a spot in the state tournament.

8. Gaffney

A week after scoring a season-low seven points, the Indians bounced back with a shutout victory over Wade Hampton. In addition to shutting down two opponents, three of their seven wins came in overtime. Gaffney will have a massive showdown against fourth-ranked Spartanburg on Nov. 8. The Indians’ defense, ranked fourth in South Carolina high school football, must be on point to pull off an upset against the Vikings.

9. Sumter

The Gamecocks earned their ninth consecutive victory after scoring a season-high 65 points against Westwood. Sumter raced to a 37-14 halftime lead against the Redhawks and never looked back. The Gamecocks will face Ridge View on Nov. 8, their final game in conference play before the state tournament.

10. T. L. Hanna

The Yellow Jackets scored at least 50 points in two of their last three games. Their 50-16 road win over Mauldin extended their winning streak to five games. T. L. Hanna poured in 22 first-quarter points, and the Mavericks never caught up. The tenth-best team in South Carolina will close out conference play against Hillcrest on the 8th.
