Teddy Bridgewater FaceTimes Northwestern (Fla.) before game

Teddy Bridgewater returning to the NFL doesn’t mean he won’t be checking in with his alma mater, Miami Northwestern Bulls, before their games.

The former Miami Northwestern head coach had his own game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in NFL preseason action, but Bridgewater before he took the field FaceTimed Northwestern before they played Lakeland (Fla.) on Saturday evening. The Bulls ended up routing the Dreadnaughts, 40-3, in a preseason kickoff classic.

Bridgewater on Saturday night saw his first action as Buccaneer against the Steelers, with the former Bulls’ lead man throwing for 85 yards and two touchdowns as Tampa Bay defeated Pittsburgh, 17-14, on the road.

After completing his first practice as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer less than two weeks ago, Bridgewater spoke to media regarding his Miami Northwestern suspension.

“Miami Northwestern is in a tough neighborhood. Sometimes things can happen when kids are walking home. I was just trying to protect them,” Bridgewater said to media. “I was just trying to give them a ride home instead of having them take those dangerous walks. But you can see me for the person that I’ve been from the time I arrived in the NFL and the time I arrived at University of Louisville.”

The Bulls tabbed Victrum, an alum of Northwestern, as the program’s interim head football coach for the 2025 season. Victrum had previously served as Miami Northwestern’s junior varsity head coach before being promoted on an interim basis to the lead position for the Bulls this upcoming fall.

It was a whirlwind year and a half for Bridgewater during his tenure at his alma mater Miami Northwestern. Bridgewater made an immediate impact for Northwestern, leading the Bulls to its first state title since 2019, guiding the program to the FHSAA Class 3A title. Northwestern finished 2024 with a 12-2 record and ranked No. 6 in Florida, according to the Rivals Composite High School Team Rankings.

According to latest Massey Ratings Florida high school school football rankings, the Bulls are ranked as the No. 2 team in the state heading into Saturday night’s primetime contest against Orange Lutheran (Calif.).
