Tennessee High School Football: Baylor School holds off Ensworth

Baylor School, the No. 1 ranked team in the state of Tennessee, had to hold off an upset-minded Ensworth on Friday night in Chattanooga.

The Red Raiders needed to come-from-behind, trailing 14-0 in the first quarter, out-scoring the Tigers 35-7 the rest of the way. Baylor School came away with a 35-21 victory over Ensworth, to improve to 8-0 on the season with a matchup against Knoxville Catholic next week.

In the first quarter, Ensworth would take an early 14-0 lead but it would be Baylor School storming back in the first half, tying things up in the second quarter. With less than two minutes remaining in the second quarter, running back David Gabriel Georges would score on a 3-yard touchdown to give the Red Raiders a 21-14 advantage.

Baylor School wouldn’t look back for the rest of the game as they eventually pulled ahead with another touchdown to go up 28-14. Ensworth would get to within 28-21, but the Red Raiders would put the game out of reach when Louisville commitment Briggs Cherry would throw a 26-yard touchdown pass with 1:48 left in the third period.

From there, neither team would score in the final quarter of play as both defenses held strong. Baylor School will now look to close the season out at 9-0 before the TSSAA playoffs begin in a couple weeks.
