Chattanooga (Tenn.) McCallie School wide receiver Keeyshawn Tabuteau made one of the best plays of the early Tennessee high school football season on Friday night and it couldn’t have come at a better time for the Blue Tornados.

Nursing a 7-0 lead late in the first half against a Mission Viejo (Calif.) high school football team ranked No. 11 nationally, McCallie’s potent offense – one of the best in Tennessee – started a drive pinned on its 1-yard line. Instead of playing it safe, the Blue Tornado offense went to the air. Senior quarterback Elliott Drapeau faked a hand-off and then threw deep down the far sideline to Tabuteau who managed to tip the pass to himself multiple times and finally haul it in for a reception.

McCallie leads Mission Viejo 10-0 at halftime.

About the McCallie School Blue Tornados

The defending Tennessee high school football champions in Class 3A Div. II, McCallie entered Friday’s matchup with Mission Viejo ranked No. 3 in the state. The Blue Tornadoes are 3-1 on the season with wins over No. 20 Lipscomb Academy, No. 43 Hebron Christian Academy and Father Ryan. The team’s lone loss came last week against No. 7 Ensworth.

About Tabuteau

Rated as a three-star prospect by the Rivals Industry Rankings, an equally weighted formula that utilizes the three major recruiting services, Tabuteau ranks as the No. 17 prospect in Tennessee’s senior high school football class. The 6-foot, 175-pound prospect committed to the in-state Vanderbilt Commodores in June over listed offers from the Auburn Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Oklahoma Sooners and Tennessee Volunteers.
