Each year, it seems that a Texas high school football program is moving into a new stadium that rivals — or trumps — many at the lower college levels. Across the Lone Star State, $50M-plus monuments show just how committed these programs are to prep football, and they’re becoming even more common.

La Porte High, which sits just 30 minutes southeast of Houston, is the latest to join that club. Last week, Texas Football Life revealed aerial photos for a $56 million stadium that the Bulldogs are set to play in beginning this fall.

The stadium has been under construction for nearly three years, as La Porte last played a home game back on Oct. 21, 2022 against Baytown Sterling. During that time, Bulldogs have played games at nearby Barbers Hill and Deer Park’s Abshier Stadium during the 2024 season.

Along with a new playing surface, the construction also includes a new track, state-of-the-art weight room, a brand-new press box and more.

La Porte will enter its new home coming off one of its best seasons in recent memory. The Bulldogs finished the 2024 campaign 10-4, including an undefeated 7-0 mark in district play. They also reached the 5A Division I quarterfinals before falling to Angleton. It was the programs first season with double-digit wins since 2012-13.

The nearly completed project is the latest in a long lone of eye-popping stadiums built in the state over the past decade-plus. Last year, the Willis ISD requested $68.8 million for a new 8,500-seat stadium to support its lone high school program.

That dollar figure is in line with other projects in Katy and McKinney, which rang up $72 million and $70 million, respectively. The Prosper ISD also received a new stadium in the past five years, which cost a little less than $60 million, according to data obtained by Front Office Sports.

Adjusted for inflation, the Willis ISD project would be the seventh-most expensive high school football stadium built in Texas over the past 20 years.

La Porte’s stadium would come in at No. 9 on that list, just ahead of fellow Texas districts Tomball ($55.7 million in 2021) and Clear Creek ($52.2 million in 2016). Adjusted for inflation, the Cy-Fair ISD’s project in 2006 is still the most expensive in state history, costing a whopping $124 million in today’s dollars.
