Texas high school football team dedicates season to deceased player

A Texas high school football team will carry a ton of emotions throughout the 2025 season as they dedicate their games to a fallen teammate. Fox 4 KDFW’s Alex Boyer wrote that Frisco’s Memorial High School will pay tribute to Austin Metcalf in all their games this year.

To honor Metcalf’s legacy, the Warriors will embrace the “A11 In” motto throughout their campaign since Metcalf wore the No. 11 jersey. Likewise, Memorial named him an honorary captain. This battle cry helped the Warriors earn a 40-27 season-opening victory over Woodrow Wilson.

Benjamin Wilson led the way with 13 completions for 236 yards and two touchdowns. Beckett Martin had 16 carries for 152 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while AJ Warren had seven catches for 126 yards and a touchdown.

More importantly, the Warriors have already matched their win total from last season and avenged their 2024 loss to the same team. Following this victory, Frisco Memorial will continue with the 2025 Texas high school football season against Melissa on September 12. Supporting Austin and his twin, Hunter Metcalf, during the game are their great aunts from Nebraska.

Austin Metcalf, 17, was stabbed to death by another athlete, Karmelo Anthony, during a track meet last April. Anthony, a student of Frisco Centennial, is charged with first-degree murder, and the trial will be in June 2026.
