Texas high school football team ruled ineligible for 2025 UIL playoffs

One of the top high school football teams in Texas’ Class 2A-1, Region II, District 7 has been notified that they will not be eligible for the 2025 playoffs come November.
According to a report by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, Rio Vista has been barred from partaking in the UIL’s 2A-1, Region II, District 7 playoffs after the district’s executive committee voted unanimously to ban the Eagles. The decision of banning Rio Vista from postseason play comes at the conclusion of allegations stemming from student-athlete recruiting.
The end result was multiple unnamed players being deemed ineligible for the remainder of the season and Rio Vista prohibited from taking part in the playoffs this fall. Per the report, Rio Vista is expected to appeal the district’s decision to ban the Eagles from the playoffs and suspension of the players to the UIL State Executive Committee (SEC).
Report went on to state that incentives were give to players from a 7-on-7 club team to move into the district solely for the purpose of playing football at Rio Vista. With that information in hand, the district decided on handing down the suspensions, sanctions to the Eagles.
