The Georgia high school football season is so close, you can practically smell the freshly cut grass and smoke from the grills as we speak. No, for real, though. The Peach State kicks off action the week of Aug. 13-16 and there’s a whole host of games we are itching to see throughout Georgia. Biggest questions are which ones should folks be looking to attend?

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with what we believe to be the 10 best Georgia high school football games heading into the 2025 season.

1. Milton at Buford, Aug. 14

If you thought it might be a different game, well, you’re sadly mistaken. I mean really, how could this not be the hottest ticket in the Greater Atlanta region? This one has all the storylines to it, plus a venue that costed $62-million to build and is ready for Georgia’s Week 1 slate of games. There’s a plethora of talent on both sides of the field and not to mention, this place will be electric. The vibes may be second to none and we’re all here for it.

2. Thompson (Ala.) at Grayson, Aug. 29

It took overtime to figure out a winner between these two last season. There’s little reason to believe this will not be a barn burner again because what both teams bring back to the table. The Rams defeated the Warriors 15-14, setting up this year’s rematch, which should be pure cinema for us all watching from the sidelines, stands or via a livestream. Oh yeah, and its a Alabama versus Georgia tilt, so that’s always an extra added layer to the intensity between the squads.

3. Parker (Ala.) at Carrollton, Sept. 19

Another Alabama versus Georgia game? Yeah, why not because lets face it, Parker and Carrollton are both state title contenders within their borders. Now having no Julian Lewis takes a little bit of air out of the game compared to last year’s contest, but we ranked this one so high due to the level of talent is still there. It’s virtually a mid-season test of sorts for both teams, as they begin to see how the regular season unravels.

4. Grayson at Collins Hill, Aug. 15

I mean, we just don’t feel right if we left these guys off the list because this was honestly a Game of the Year candidate from last year. In what ended up being the only loss the Rams suffered all season long en route to winning the Class AAAAAA state championship, the Eagles edged Grayson 20-19 in an absolute thriller. Now with a chance to exact some sort of revenge at Collins Hill’s place, you have to believe Grayson has this game circled in red marker.

5. Lee County at Thomas County Central, Sept. 26

We put this one ahead of the Winnersville Classic for the shear fact that these two programs have regulary been in the Georgia state championship conversation when it comes to their respective classes. This matchup was a good middle of the season test for both clubs, with the Trojans coming away with a 35-23 victory. Looking at this year’s meeting, it’s lining up to be arguably South Georgia’s Game of the Year in many respects.

6. Lowndes at Valdosta, Oct. 31

Winnersville Classic. That’s all you have to say to anyone that lives in the area to know this is the game to go to at the end of the season. Last year’s edition was as good as it gets, from talent on the field, competitive and the atmosphere was second to none. This game is really what South Georgia high school football is all about.

7. Collins Hill at Mill Creek, Oct. 10

When the Hawks and Eagles met last year in the second half of the season, Collins Hill snuck away with a narrow 13-12 victory over Mill Creek. Though the Hawks graduated a few key pieces on offense, we still expect this game to be every bit as entertaining compared to the 2024 version. From the talent to the competitiveness on both sides, this is shaping up to be another slobber knocker.

8. Benedictine Military School at Colquitt County, Aug. 15

Another Week 1 opener for both teams as the Cadets and Packers clash in Moultrie in what looks to be a really good matchup on paper. The Packers were a bit of an enigma last season as they at times seemed like their usual dominant selves and at other points were vulnerable. Benedictine was in some ways very similar to Colquitt County and both teams head into the season with a lot to prove after each lost four games in 2024. Who can get off on the right foot seems important here.

9. Carrollton at Gainesville, Sept. 12

Gainesville fans are just chopping at the bit to see their Red Elephants come through with the signature win they need during the regular season. Well, this could be the time to get the Trojans. Josh Niblett has been building a powerful team and last year’s meeting was competitive, but Carrollton also had Julian Lewis, who is now at Colorado, as its quarterback. Behind what should be a sold out crowd hungry for a potential upset, this game has all the makings to be a classic.

10. Brunswick at Camden County, Aug. 15

If anything is guaranteed when these two South Georgia teams get together recently is points will be scored in the bunches. Yes, plenty of touchdowns if you’re looking to catch the Pirates and Wildcats go at it. When these two teams met last season they combined for 92 points as Camden County came away with a wild 51-41 victory. Brunswick features Florida commit Heze Kent at tight end and a lot of the key elements remain in place for this one to be another shootout, this time in Kingsland.
