Utah High School Football: Corner Canyon completes 3-peat for 6A title

That old adage “it’s hard to beat the same team twice in a season” might not always be true, but Thursday afternoon at the University of Utah’s Rice-Eccles Stadium, the Massey Ratings‘ No. 7 nationally ranked Corner Canyon was able to exact a bit of revenge from the Utah high school football regular season.
Behind a strong effort between Texas A&M commit Helaman Casuga and running back Weston Briggs, who led the way with 171 yards rushing and four touchdowns, lifted Corner Canyon to a 35-20 victory over Lone Peak. With the win, the Chargers completed the 3-peat of winning state championships and could end up finishing as one of the nation’s top high school football programs.
For tonight, the Chargers are atop of the Utah high school football world as they avenged a 42-21 regular season loss to the Knights.
Though the final score was a two-touchdown gap, this game for most of the afternoon was a tightly contested one between the two Utah powerhouses.
Corner Canyon (12-1) opened up the scoring in the first quarter with a 1-yard scoring plunge from Briggs, the first of his four scores on the night.
Lone Peak (8-5) answered with a field goal and then took a 10-7 lead when Tate Barney took the direct snap from Wildcat to put the Knights ahead.

The two teams exchange jabs throughout the opening half, but it would be Lone Peak entering halftime with a 17-14 lead after Knights’ quarterback Kepa Niumeitolu bullied his way in from one yard out.
The Chargers’ defense was able to hold the Knights to a field goal in the third quarter and that would be all they would end up scoring in the latter two quarters. Corner Canyon would take the lead for good with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter when Briggs would punch it in from a yard out.
Up 21-20, it would be Briggs and the Corner Canyon defense that took center stage as they kept Lone Peak’s defense and offense at bay. Briggs would add two more touchdowns on the dais, with the 6-foot-2, 205-pound senior saving his best for last and having his best statistical game of the 2025 season.
