Utah High School Football Playoffs: Lone Peak beats Skyridge to advance to 6A championship

Lone Peak will have another chance to capture its first Utah high school football state championship since 2021 as the Knights stunned Skyridge 13-7 on Friday inside Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.
The Knights, who entered as the No. 6 seed in the UHSAA 6A bracket, kept No. 2 Skyridge in check for nearly all four quarters. They took a 10-0 lead into halftime, added a field goal and stopped the Falcons multiple times in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
The play of the game came via senior Utah Utes receiver commit Kennan Pula, who made an unbelievable grab on defense for a crucial interception that helped keep the Knights in front:
The victory for Lone Peak sets up a rematch with top-seeded Corner Canyon for the 6A title. The two met in the title game last season, with Corner Canyon winning a 30-27 thriller.
Lone Peak does already have a win over the Chargers under its belt. On Sept. 19, the Knights picked up a convincing 42-21 win. That’s Corner Canyon’s lone loss this season. It’s familiar storyline, because Lone Peak also beat Corner Canyon in the regular season last fall before losing to it in the title game.

This year’s playoff run has seen Lone Peak roll past Farmington, then topple No. 3-seeded Davis, which was led by new Iowa blue-chip quarterback commit Tradon Bessinger. The Knights beat the Darts 41-38, setting up Friday night’s slog against Skyridge.
They now have to try and slay Corner Canyon once more. Led by four-star QB Helaman Casuga, the Chargers romped No. 4 Mountain Ridge 59-20 to punch their ticket back to the title game. Corner Canyon is eyeing its third state title in a row.
The title game is set for Thursday, Nov. 20.
