According to a report by InsideNova, Prince William County Public Schools Student Activities Management Department has launched an investigation into alleged inappropriate use of electronic devices by the chain gang that was working the Virginia high school football game between Forest Park at Battlefield last week.

The Bobcats ended up defeating the Bruins, 27-16, on Friday night in a VHSL Class 6 region quarterfinal contest.

The report goes on to state that principals of both schools, Forest Park principal Richard Martinez and Battlefield principal Delores Lucas, each sent out a letter to families regarding the situation regarding the chain gang.

“It was reported that the volunteers working the first-down chains were inappropriately using communication devices. Once discovered, the referees asked the volunteers to remove the devices. The chain gang volunteers were asked to leave the game to mitigate any further disruptions,” the letter sent out by the principals said, via the report.

Virginia’s No. 16 ranked Battlefield was the home team, which would’ve supplied the chain crew for the playoff contest. The report said that late in the third quarter, electronic devices were discovered on the four-person chain gang and the crew was immediately removed and replaced with another group.

Battlefield has advanced to the VHSL Class 6 region semifinals where they’ll host North Stafford.
