Way-Too-Early Georgia High School Boys Basketball Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Oct. 31

The Georgia high school boys basketball 2025-26 season is shaping up to be a good one after a 24-25 campaign that saw plenty of teams take steps towards being the state’s best.
Topping the Peach State as the No. 1 team in our first Georgia Top 25 rankings are the Grayson Rams, which are coming off a 28-4 season after they fell in the GHSA Class 6A state semifinals to eventual champion Wheeler, who checks in at No. 2. The Rams have a bundle of talent returning, but who else should we watch for out of Georgia when it comes to the state’s top high school boys basketball teams?
We dive into the Georgia hoops scene as high school football season is still in full gear as we take an early peek at who are the top teams from around the state.
The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
Here’s a way-too-early look at the top 25 teams in the country according to the Massey Ratings, which ranks teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory, as of Oct. 31.
1. Grayson Rams
Checking in as the top team in the state of Georgia in the preseason are the Grayson Rams, whom went 28-4 a year ago. The Rams came a game away from competing for Georgia’s Class 6A state championship, but were upended by Wheeler (see below) in the state semifinals. Now with a roster that can matchup with just about anyone in the state, seeing this team make another deep run is certainly not out of the question. Grayson will be led by the talents of 2027 three-star shooting guard Marcus Curry, who was named a first-team preseason Class 6A all-state selection.
2. Wheeler Wildcats
Probably plenty are wondering how one of the more loaded teams out of the Peach State fell to the No. 2 spot, but hey, rankings can help for motivational reasons, right? The Wheeler Wildcats, the defending Class 6A state champions, are stacked with talent after winning it all last season. Featured on this upcoming season’s roster is UConn commitment Colben Landrew at point guard and Ole Miss pledge Jaron Saulsberry at small forward. 2027 guard Kevin Savage is a four-star recruit and has offers already from schools like Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Sacramento State.
3. McEachern Indians
The McEachern Indians saw its season end in the second round in a loss to Norcross, but finished with a 24-6 record. There’s a lot of optimism surrounding the program as the Indians have one of the top rising combo guards in the state in 2027 four-star Chase Lumpkin. Lumpkin, who stands 6-foot-5, has been receiving plenty of interest from schools and recently received an offer from Alabama. McEachern will tip-off the season on Nov. 8 against No. 5 Newton.
4. Pace Academy Knights
Coming in at No. 4 on our list are the Pace Academy Knights, who finished with an impressive run to the GHSA’s Class 4A state championship game, falling to North Oconee, 60-51. The Knights are back with an array of talent back on the hardwood this fall. Though the team lost its two top scorers from a year ago, the team does bring back sophomore guard Brielen Craft, who averaged 5.4 points and 1.6 assists as a freshman.

5. Newton Rams
There’s an argument to be had that the Newton Rams were the best team in Georgia after just narrowly losing to No. 2 Wheeler in the Class 6A state championship, 61-56. Newton finished with a 21-10 record in 2024-25 and returns enough talent in order to make another run towards the 6A title game once again. The Rams will lean on the play of senior 6-foot-9 forward Cayden Young and senior point guard Jayden Scott.
