As the 2025 high school football season approaches in Nevada, anticipation is reaching a fever pitch across the Silver State. Come August, hundreds of teams across five divisions will return to action in pursuit of a state championship. From powerhouse programs with storied histories to rising contenders eager to prove themselves, these are the top teams in the Nevada football rankings according to Massey.

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule and margin of victory.

1. Bishop Gorman Gaels

Bishop Gorman is the definitive top program in Nevada high school football and regularly fields teams that rank among the nation’s best. This year should be no different. The defending Class 5A Division I state champions are favored to win it all again this year, thanks to their stellar collection of talent up and down the roster.

Five-star safety Jett Washington, an Oregon commit, is the headliner on defense but he isn’t alone. Four-star cornerback Hayden Stepp, three-star edge edge rusher Prince Williams (Arizona) and emerging young stars Tamatoa Gaoteote and Tayaun Lawrence will make things tough for opposing offenses.

Three-star quarterback Maika Eugenio (Hawaii) will lead a Bishop Gorman offense that features several future college standouts. Three-star running back Terrance Grant and three-star receiver Isaiah Nickels are the top returning skill players.

2. Liberty Patriots

Liberty‘s 2024 season ended with a loss to Bishop Gorman in the playoffs. Just like its 2023 season. And its 2022 season. And the same in 2021 as well.

If the Patriots are to get past the Gaels this season, they’ll need big seasons from running back Ezra Sanelivi and defensive backs Rysen-James Dacosin-Arcala and Jahmin Waldrop.

3. Arbor View Aggies

Arbor View finished last season at No. 2 in the Nevada state rankings after a 10-2 campaign that ended with a loss to Bishop Gorman in the state title game. The Aggies are primed for another run this fall with a talented roster and a schedule that should prepare them for November.

Utah quarterback commit Thaddeus Thatcher will command the Arbor View offense, which also features tight end Zac Fares, running back Kamareion Bell and wide receivers Damani Warren and Jayden Williams.

The Aggies open the season in Hawaii against the Aloha State’s second-ranked team, Mililani.

4. Bishop Manogue Catholic Miners

Bishop Manogue Catholic went back-to-back in 2024, defeating Faith Lutheran for the program’s 15th state championship. The Miners’ push for a three-peat will be aided by the return of three-star quarterback Brandon Mann. The Nevada commit will need to be on his game early as the team graduated a ton of offensive production.

5. Faith Lutheran Crusaders

Jay Staggs is entering his first season at the helm of Faith Lutheran, and he has big shoes to fill after the retirement of Mike Sanford. The Crusaders have ended each of the last two seasons in the Class 5A Division II state championship game and Staggs will look to get them over hump this fall.

Luckily, Staggs will be able to lean on some key talent returning to the roster. Running back Rookie Shepard will bring the heat from the backfield while four-star Washington commit Gavin Day and three-star BYU pledge Matthew Mason will patrol the secondary.

6. Coronado Cougars

Coronado will certainly be battle-tested by the time the team opens up league play against Desert Oasis. The Cougars play Hawaii stalwart Mililani on Aug. 29 and national power IMG Academy (Fla.) on Sept. 13. Quality performances in those games should give Coronado momentum heading into back half of its season.

7. Edward C. Reed Raiders

Edward C. Reed has steadily improved under coach Garrett Hughes and came agonizingly close to appearing in the state championship game last year. The Raiders head into 2025 looking to keep that momentum going. Three-star running back Bronwyn Rios will be a steady presence in the team’s offensive backfield after the graduation of quarterback Nishaan Bajwa.

8. Spanish Springs Cougars

Spanish Springs has topped out at seven wins and lost in the second-round of the playoffs in each of the last three seasons. The Cougars are hoping to break through in 2025 and will be leaning on quarterback Tyson McNeil and receiver Brady Hummel.

9. Shadow Ridge Mustangs

Shadow Ridge is looking to build on last year’s 9-4 campaign, which saw the Mustangs finish No. 8 in the Nevada state rankings. Ula Cox returns at quarterback but he’ll be breaking in a mostly new group of receivers and running backs.

10. Desert Pines Jaguars

Desert Pines named Chot West its head football coach in May, which doesn’t give him much time to prepare for the Jaguars’ 2025 season. The Jaguars bottomed out at 2-7 last season, enduring separate four- and five-game losing streaks that saw the team post its worst record in more than 20 years.

West may not have time on his side this fall, but he does have a pair of standout receivers to build around in Treyshaun Jackson and Massiah Mingo.
