West Virginia High School Football Top 25 Rankings - Sep. 9

The country roads is also to where you can find the second set of West Virginia high school football rankings after Week 2 play. Continued fluctuating of teams is evident in this week’s set of West Virginia rankings.
For the first time in quite awhile, the Martinsburg Bulldogs are not the state’s No. 1 ranked team after suffering their second straight loss of the season, this time to Huntington, who now leaps to No. 3. Bridgeport remains steady at the top spot, but who else is featured amongst the Top 25?
Here are the top 25 teams heading into Week 3 of the 2025 West Virginia high school football season, according to Massey.
The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.
1. Bridgeport Indians
The Indians (2-0) are coming off an undefeated 2024 season by dominating Herbert Hoover in the Class AAA state championship game. Buckhannon-Upshur was of no challenge in Week 1 as Bridgeport cruised to a 63-14 rout and in Week 2 bullied Heritage in a 33-14 win. Bridgeport sits entrenched atop of the West Virginia rankings as the top team in the state. It’s going to be hard to unseat the Indians as they have a favorable schedule the rest of the regular season ahead of them and could run the table at 14-0 for the second consecutive year.
2. Huntington Highlanders
Huntington (1-1) was another West Virginia team that ended up losing their opener against an out-of-state opponent, falling to Kentucky’s Paul G. Blazer, 35-21. The Highlanders made all the woes of losing in Week 1 go away when they upended Martinsburg, 22-20, a team that they lost to last year by a point the Class AAAA state semifinals. The Highlanders have firmly put themselves at the top of AAAA with the victory over the Bulldogs.

3. Wheeling Park Patriots
The Wheeling Park Patriots (2-0) opened up the 2025 West Virginia high school football season with an impressive 23-7 victory over Parkersburg South behind a strong rushing performance from senior Brennan Wack. The tailback carried the rock 33 times for 248 yards and scored three touchdowns in that victory. Wack followed it up with another superb outing, this time rushing for 233 yards and five touchdowns in a 33-28 upset win over Spring Mills.
4. Martinsburg Bulldogs
What the heck is going on in Martinsburg? The Bulldogs (0-2) have a rich history when it comes to winning state championships and after winning a second straight last year, tested their mettle against New Jersey’s Camden to start the year. Martinsburg ended up falling at 28-0 and it trickled into last week as they fell in a 22-20 loss To Huntington. The Bulldogs are off to their first 0-2 start since 2015, so it’s unusual to see Martinsburg losing to anyone, especially in back-to-back weeks, but they should bounce back this week against Woodson.
5. Morgantown Mohigans
Let’s not act like expectations are only high for the University of West Virginia when it comes to football teams that play in Morgantown (2-0). The Mohigans are held to a high standard and they have lived up to them and more in the first couple of weeks. Morgantown has breezed by Parkersburg and Jefferson by a combined score of 82-14. A 3-game stretch from Sep. 26-Oct. 3 when the Mohigans face Spring Mills, Wheeling Park and Martinsburg will really show where this team is at.
