The Wisconsin On3 Massey Ratings Top 25 list as of Oct. 28 considered the results from the state championship’s first round. Wisconsin high school football’s best teams have participated in the postseason, and here’s how they fared after round one.

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

1. Marquette University

The Hilltoppers started perfectly in the 2024 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Level 1 state tournament. They defeated Milwaukee Marshall 63-0, thanks mainly to their rushing attack, which generated 183 yards and seven touchdowns. Jack Dorley had 75 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Casey O’Brien had Marquette’s lone receiving touchdown. The Hilltoppers will face host De Pere in the next playoff round on Nov. 1.

2. Kimberly

The Papermakers are through to Level 2 after defeating Appleton North 35-16. Kimberly’s ground attack was humming as Braedon Ellefson, Marcus Doucette, Kegan Pleau, and Brady Bell combined for 173 rushing yards and four touchdowns. They will face tenth-ranked Neenah in the next phase of the Wisconsin high school football state tournament.

3. Mukwonago

The Indians had no problems defeating Janesville Craig in Level 1 of the WIAA state tournament. Mukwonago scored 42 points, led by Colton Lynch’s 198 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Mason Kelley completed two touchdown passes to Nick Martin, who finished with 166 yards. They will face Racine Case in the next round on Nov. 1.

4. Franklin

The Sabers inched closer to the state championship by defeating Fond du Lac 42-27. Robert Beglinger carried Franklin’s offense by tallying 156 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Joey Kallay also completed a touchdown pass to Ben Verges, who added two rushing touchdowns. The Sabers will face 14th-ranked Muskego in the tournament’s next phase.

5. Arrowhead

The Warhawks advanced to Level 2 of the state tournament after a 29-14 victory over 21st-ranked Hamilton. The Chargers had no answer for Jacob Siner, who dominated the game with 304 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Harper Hughes and Vance Holtz had a rushing touchdown each. Meanwhile, Arrowhead’s defense tallied three sacks and five interceptions on Hamilton quarterback Chas Powell. Arrowhead will face ninth-ranked Verona in the next phase of the Wisconsin high school football state tournament.

6. New Richmond

The Tigers’ quest for the state title isn’t over, as they defeated Marshfield 30-10. Joe Hoeppner paced New Richmond’s offense with 274 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Nick Stellrecht completed a touchdown pass to Max Kretovics. The Tigers proceed to the state tournament, facing Holmen on Nov. 1.

7. Waunakee

The Warriors earned a 28-14 victory over Wausau West, thanks mainly to Vance Johnson’s three touchdown passes. Meanwhile, Sullivan Scadden had a solid game, finishing with 18 carries for 124 yards. Waunakee will face Middleton in Level 2 of the Wisconsin state tournament.

8. Slinger

The Owls’ defense limited Brookfield Central to one touchdown. Meanwhile, they scored five touchdowns on offense, led by Kobe Hendricks’ two rushing scores. Michael Thiede, Lucas Sonn, and Chase Leverance had a touchdown each. Slinger will take on Wauwatosa East in Level 2 of the Wisconsin high school football state tournament.

9. Verona Area

The Wildcats blanked Kenosha Bradford 48-0. Verona’s running game dominated their opponents, tallying 29 carries for 229 yards and five touchdowns. Aidyn Chatman also caught two touchdown passes from Caleb Hallmark. Verona will advance to Level 2, facing Arrowhead on Nov. 1.

10. Neenah

The Rockets made light work of Milwaukee Hamilton to advance to Level 2 of the WIAA state tournament. Grant Dean had three rushing touchdowns, while Evan Vanevenhoven had a passing and a rushing touchdown. Neenah will face Kimberly in the next phase of the state tournament.
