Notes

The preseason All-SEC teams feature plenty of interesting storylines. From impact transfers to returning stars and incoming freshmen, the conference is full of storylines heading into the 2021-22 season.

Kentucky leads the way with three selections, followed by Alabama, Arkansas, LSU and Mississippi State. Only nine of the SEC’s 14 teams had a player selected among the top 18. Georgia, Missouri, Ole Miss and Texas A&M are the teams which enter the season without any preseason recognition. However, Georgia and Missouri can find familiar faces on the list.

Headlining the first-team selections is sixth-year super senior forward John Fulkerson, who returns to Tennessee with hopes of making another NCAA Tournament run. He is joined by Alabama guard Jaden Shackelford, who tested the NBA draft waters and entered the transfer portal this offseason before returning to Tuscaloosa. Sahvir Wheeler received second-team All-SEC honors in 2020 with Georgia, but his Kentucky transfer has analysts excited. Coming off his preseason Player of the Year honors, Vanderbilt guard Scotty Pippen Jr. rounds out the list of 10 first-teamers.

Among the eight second-team All-SEC players, three comes from Kentucky. Wildcat transfer guard Kellen Grady (Davidson) and center Oscar Tshiebwe (West Virginia) are joined by returning forward Keion Brooks. Auburn’s Jabari Smith, a former On3 five-star recruit, is the only freshman listed on the preseason teams. Two other transfers, Xavier Pinson (Missouri to LSU) and Garrison Brooks (North Carolina to Mississippi State) make the list. Capping off the SEC honors are emerging stars Daonte Davis and Keyshawn Bryant, who showed dramatic improvement last season.
