2023 ACC Basketball Tournament: Updated projected seeds, schedule, magic numbers

The 2023 ACC Basketball Tournament has a clearer picture after Wednesday’s slate of basketball games. The latest projected seeds, schedule and magic numbers are available as teams fight for positioning in the conference tournament.

Let’s dive into the standings and probabilities for teams who are in position for the top seed in the ACC, via PlayoffStatus.com.

ACC Basketball Standings: 

  1. Miami Hurricanes — 23-5 (14-4)
  2. Pittsburgh Panthers — 20-8 (13-4)
  3. Virginia Cavaliers — 21-5 (13-4)
  4. Clemson Tigers — 20-8 (12-5)
  5. NC State Wolfpack — 22-7 (12-6)
  6. Duke Blue Devils — 20-8 (11-6)
  7. North Carolina Tar Heels — 17-11 (9-8)
  8. Wake Forest Demon Deacons — 17-11 (9-8)
  9. Syracuse Orange — 16-12 (9-8)
  10. Boston College Eagles — 14-15 (8-10)
  11. Virginia Tech Hokies — 16-12 (6-11)

At the moment, Miami has the best odds at winning the ACC at 66%, edging out Pittsburgh’s 26%. The Hurricanes have a magic number of two, while the Panthers have a magic number of three. 

As for some of the biggest names in the ACC, Duke can finish as high as fifth, and as low as ninth. On the other hand, North Carolina — who came into the season as the top team in the conference, and the country for that matter — can finish as high a seventh, but as low as eleventh.
