Four-star cornerback Tony Mitchell of Alabaster, AL, has narrowed his list to seven schools- Florida, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, Alabama, Clemson, and Oregon.

The 6-foot-2 180 pounder recently announced a top 10, but this time around he cut Miami, Ohio State, and Florida State.

Relationships with coaches, players, the atmosphere, and others are huge factors in the 2023 cornerback’s recruitment.

Florida

“Florida is home, I’m from Florida,” Mitchell said. “It would be great to play in front of my family. I really like the coaches. They’ve shown love since day one.”

“Coach (Dan) Mullen texts me every other day,” Mitchell said. “I have a great relationship with him and Coach (Wesley) McGriff.”

Georgia

“Georgia offered me in 8th grade,” Mitchell said. “Coach (Glenn) Schumann, the linebackers coach, we became real close. I have a great relationship with a lot of the guys on staff.”

“It’s a family atmosphere, a good environment,” Mitchell said. “I’m cool with a lot of the players as well. Georgia has one of the best recruiting staffs, that’s for sure.

LSU

“I talk to Coach (Corey) Raymond a lot,” Mitchell said. “That’s DBU.”

Texas A&M

“I love Coach (Jimbo) Fisher and he has a great staff,” Mitchell said. “The atmosphere is different, and I really like what they are doing there. I feel like I could really benefit from A&M.”

Alabama

“Coach (Nick) Saban is the goat,” Mitchell said. “They are really the standard of college football. They have a great recruiting staff, coaches, and it is overall a great place. Alabama definitely has that home feeling.”

Clemson

“I have had a great relationship with Coach (Mike) Reed and Coach (Todd) Bates since my freshman year,” Mitchell said. “They’re tight with my family as well, and Clemson was my dream school growing up.”

Oregon

“Oregon is very different,” Mitchell said. “I have a good relationship with Coach (Mario) Cristobal and Coach (Rod) Chance, and want to continue to get to know them well.”

“I have good friends that’ll be playing for the Ducks in Tanner Bailey and TJ Dudley,” Mitchell said. “I am good friends with Robby Ashford, who plays quarterback and baseball at Oregon.”

Tony Mitchell is ranked as the No. 22 player in the On3 class of 2023 rankings, and is currently committed to the 2023 Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando.
