New Orleans John F. Kennedy three-star cornerback Bernard Causey has decommitted from Ole Miss.

He was pledged to the Rebels since June 21 and recently received an offer from the LSU Tigers.

Causey is the No. 1003 overall prospect and No. 103 CB in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 30 player in Louisiana.

“Beyond grateful for the opportunity to be offered a scholarship to ole miss but at this time I will be decommitting to open up my options,” Causey wrote. “I want to thank the team, the coaches, and the fans for all the love I was shown, Ole Miss will still be an option.”

Causey does not currently have an On3 NIL Valuation. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

LSU pursuing Causey’s pledge

Causey camped in Baton Rouge in June just before his commitment to Ole Miss. His performance at that camp eventually led to an offer, which wasn’t a surprise to the defensive back.

“I had no doubt in my mind that I was getting the LSU offer after dominating the camp,” Causey told On3 on Oct. 3. “I ran 4.4-4.5 (second 40-yard dash time), I had then checked everything off the list, and it was just my time to wait for my turn. Coach Frank (Wilson) told me that patience is the key … I waited and I got rewarded with what I deserve.”

Associate head coach Frank Wilson has led LSU’s charge for Causey. With his pledge to Ole Miss now no more, the Tigers have a chance to capitalize and bring another in-state recruit into the fold.

“It’s always gonna feel good to have an offer from the biggest school in your state,” Causey said. “The offer has brought a lot of attention and respect to my name, which I (have) deserved, but hey, you can’t control time and I knew my time was gonna come.”

LSU’s recruiting class is currently No. 11 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Brian Kelly and the Tigers currently have 24 commitments, 16 of whom are four-stars.
