When we refer to Johns Creek (Ga.) High School sophomore defensive lineman Alex Cunningham moving forward we have to say he’s an All American.

Cunningham was invited to the All-American Bowl on Wednesday morning. Later in the day, Cunningham was invited to the Under Armour All America game.

Over the last few years, Cunningham has gotten more familiar with both games.

The occasions act as a meeting of the most talented high school players in the country for one last high school game before taking off and heading to the colleges of their choice.

Some of the biggest moments include big names making their college decorations on the stage live on national TV while the game commences.

The college declarations are the most memorable moments that Cunningham is the most familiar with from the two games.

“It’s kind of seared its way into my brain. Really, both of them,” Cunningham said.  “I’m still open with everything… In the past couple months, and maybe years, I’ve been watching it on TV and watching YouTube clips of it. Watching all that stuff I know the two big ones are the Adidas All American Bowl and Under Armour All American game. It’s a blessing. I’m not a senior yet, so I’m not really worried about it. I’m just worried about working.”

Big Ten getting into race for Alex Cunningham

Alex Cunningham picked up four offers from Big Ten programs since Aug 6. Penn State offered the 6-foot-6, 260-pound defensive lineman on Aug. 11. Indiana offered on Aug. 7. Maryland offered Cunningham on Aug. 6, as did Michigan State.

Cunningham spoke with “three or four” coaches from Penn State after the offer. He remembers how honest the group was in telling him some of the potential downsides of playing in Pennsylvania.

The cold weather came up.

“Penn State was really cool,” Cunningham said. “I got to talk to three or four members of the staff at once on the phone. They were just talking about the school and what I’m going to like about it.

“I also remember that they told me what people might tell me what I might like about their school, like the cold weather and all that. They were real about it. They said if you’re trying to play in the league, you’re going to play in the cold sometime eventually. It was cool how real their recruiting staff was.”

Cunningham doesn’t care about the weather. He’s trying to keep an open mind about his entire process. As only a sophomore, Cunningham has 20 offers already.

He says he’ll begin looking to cut down the list just before the start of his senior year. Until then, Cunningham hopes to get more opportunities and build more relationships with coaches around the nation.

“Everything is open, I’m trying to keep as open of a mind as possible,” Cunningham said.
