2025 4-star QB Antwann Hill 're-evaluating options' following Colorado decommitment

It’s been a sour couple of days for Deion Sanders and Colorado on the recruiting trail, as the Buffaloes lost a trio of commitments in the span of 24 hours.

The first to decommit was Warner Robins (Ga.) Houston County four-star quarterback Antwann Hill, the No. 72 prospect and No. 5 QB in the 2025 cycle — per the On3 Industry Ranking. He backed off his pledge on Sunday, just a little over a month after he committed.

Hill visited Boulder on Oct. 13, then committed a week later. He wasn’t the first junior signal-caller to come off the board, but reclassifying to the 2024 cycle was in the cards for the 6-foot-4.5, 205-pounder at one point. Now, he’s taking a step back and letting some other dominoes fall, according to On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons.

“The plan was — when (Hill) committed — he was thinking he was going to reclassify and be a part of Colorado’s class in 2024. After taking a step back, getting back home…talking with his family, trainer, they decided to take things a little bit slower. Stay for his senior season of high school and stay in that 2025 class to give him more time to make that decision,” Simmons said on The Inside Scoop.

…When that decision was made not to reclassify, they wanted to take a step back, re-evaluate their college football options and just decommit from Colorado. Colorado’s still in the mix, he still plans to be in communication with that coaching staff, but he wanted to take a step back, see other options, take other visits and then go from there.”

With Hill’s eyes now firmly set on one more season of college football, the pressure to make a decision can take a backseat. The transfer portal is set to open in the coming days, while all sorts of chaos will change the college football landscape for a fair few programs this offseason.

“He’s definitely going to take some time now to see what happens with the transfer portal, what QB rooms look like come early 2024. The moving parts of recruiting, who commits, decommits, who signs with who in 2024. Who commits early at QB in the 2025 class and what QBs make moves in the portal,” Simmons said. “I think that’s very important — the room, the opportunity he sees. I think it comes down to two things after that: QB development — who can put him in the right spot to be successful … and then relationships.”

Plenty of contenders expected to push for Hill

Before committing to Colorado, Hill had already made plenty of trips around the nation to visit programs. Clemson, Auburn, Florida State, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia have all had the QB on campus at least twice throughout his recruitment.

With a decision not expected anytime soon, there’s plenty of opportunity for other schools — like the Louisville Cardinals — to get in the mix. The Buffaloes won’t be going anywhere, either.

“Now that he’s back on the market relatively early in his recruitment, I think Colorado has to be a school that still factors in there,” Simmons said. “A school he wants to get to as soon as possible is Louisville … he mentioned schools like Alabama, LSU, he was at Florida for the Tennessee game earlier this season…Texas A&M…I think he wants to let the dust settle, let the 2024 class play out and then see what schools do pursue him early next year.”

Hill has an On3 NIL Valuation of $269K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
