Buford (Ga.) 2025 athlete Osiris Gilbert went out and laid down fast times on the track this spring and his recruitment awakened. Gilbert put up a 10.69 100-meter dash time during a meet earlier this spring.

Michigan State offered first. Then, Georgia entered the race. Gilbert has since added new offers from Florida State, USF and UCF.

Gilbert is no stranger to Georgia. His mother is the track and field coach at Georgia. The Bulldogs’ offer is one that jumps off the page for Gilbert for multiple reasons.

“I was very excited,” Gilbert told On3. “Georgia is the number one school in the nation. They won the national championship. I’m thankful to God that I was able to get that one. A couple of days before that I ran track and I knew that I was going to get a couple of offers. I didn’t know Georgia was going to be the first one because it’s Georgia. That’s only going to push me harder because I know I have to work for it now.”

The Bulldogs taking the leap early could pay dividends down the road.

“That’s big for me, even if I get the Alabamas and Clemson and all them, it’ll be big and they’ll be in my top schools because that’s the first school to show me true love,” Gilbert said. “Michigan State showed me a lot of love as well.”

Gilbert has already been to campus multiple times. He’s been impressed each time.

“The facilities and all the players that were in the league (caught my attention),” Gilbert said. “Coach Fran (Brown) kept it real. College coaches can make you a better man down the road.”

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine currently favors Georgia. The Bulldogs have a 25.8 percent chance of landing the speedy athlete according to RPM

Competitive family has molded Osiris Gilbert

Gilbert’s household is full of athletes. His mother is a Georgia’s track coach but before that, she was a three-time All-American at UCLA.

His father, Greg Gilbert, played linebacker at Alabama. Gilbert’s older brothers Alex Gilbert and Spencer Gilbert both played college football.

The younger Gilbert admits he lives in a competitive home. It’s helped him mature into a multi-faceted athlete himself.

“It’s very competitive at all times,” Gilbert said with a laugh. “We’re always betting about who is better at this or that. Growing up in that environment helped me become a better athlete and all-around person.”
