Guillermo Diaz is a 7-foot-0 power forward from Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy Academic. He is the No. 68 ranked player in On3’s 2022 ranking. Twin brother Jorge Diaz is a 6-foot-11 forward for the same team. Jorge is On3’s No. 143 ranked player in 2022.

The brothers hail from the Canary Islands. Guillermo Diaz spent the summer playing with the Spanish U18 national team in the European Championships. In October, the pair came to the United States to play a year of prep basketball. Both brothers turned down professional contracts overseas to play collegiately.

Current visit schedule

(*each current visit are scheduled to be taken in April)
21-23 – Guillermo and Jorge will be at Pittsburgh
24-26 Guillermo will be at Utah State, Jorge at Weber State
27-28 Guillermo will be at San Francisco, Jorge at George Washington
28-30 Guillermo and Jorge will be at UMass

This visit schedule shows that the two are willing to play separately. Each brother has one official visit remaining. However, there is a short window to add a visit as there is a limited period of time their parents will be in the United States.

On3’s take

Jorge is a smooth shooting forward who, at 6-11, could be a wing long-term. He can create his own shot in the half-court, using a crafty and decisive dribble. The jump shot is pure, both off the bounce or the stand-still. Jorge moves fluidly in space, has wiggle, and can move his feet. Currently No. 143 in the rankings, he will be in line for a significant bump in the next update.

Guillermo is a touch taller than Jorge at 7-0. He plays mainly in the mid and high post; however, he can step out and confidently knock down a catch and shoot three. Guillermo is an excellent passer; a team can run offense through him from various areas on the floor. In five starts with the Spanish u18 national team this summer, Guillermo averaged 11 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game.

In their words

Guillermo: “I want to go somewhere with good facilities and where I get along with the staff. I want to have a good relationship with the coaches and have it feel like a family environment.”

Jorge: “We are fine playing separately. We both want to go where we best fit and if that is apart, so be it.”

Jim Carr on the Diaz twins

Jim Carr is the coach for the IMG Academy Academic team. Carr’s collegiate coaching stops include Rutgers and Rhode Island and he most recently coached at Tallahassee (FL) The University School with Vernon Carey, Scottie Barnes, and others.

on Guillermo: “Guillermo is so skilled. He is a 7-footer who can handle, shoot, and pass from any position on the floor. We do so much stuff with him. The added weight he has put on since arriving at IMG has allowed him to stand up in the post more. He is a very skilled player with so much upside.”

on Jorge: “Jorge shoots the three at such a high level, where he has improved since he got to IMG is attacking the rim. The added weight has given him more confidence off the bounce. Offensively, he is such a gifted kid already, and there is still so much upside as he continues growing into his body.”
