Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek four-star cornerback Cobey Sellers has three official visits locked in this summer — to Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma.

And one of those schools will receive his commitment in less than two weeks, with Sellers announcing on Tuesday that he will choose between the Aggies, Longhorns and Sooners on May 11.

As it stands today, Brent Venables and Co. are trending in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), but the two in-state programs have been strong in their pursuit of Sellers in recent months.

He was on hand for Texas’ star-studded junior day in January with several Shadow Creek teammates, and he received ample attention from Blake Gideon and also Steve Sarkisian.

“Being able to talk with the coaches, being able to be around them and get a feel for them, I heard a lot about their experience and their time in the NFL,” Sellers previously told On3. “Sark’s big message is to make the right decision for me and my family, and they really want me there and if I think Texas is right for me, they’re on board. They love me as a player and also as a person, and they’re ready to make it happen.”

“I definitely like Texas,” he added. “I like what their coaching staff is doing, the personalities of the coaches, and I could see myself being there.”

Oklahoma looking to reel in another top Lone Star State target

Sellers returned to Oklahoma in January as well and continued to learn about the Sooners directly from Brent Venables and Jay Valai.

Venables’ message for the On300 cornerback still resonates with Sellers.

“They’re still continuing to build the relationship we’ve built,” he said. “I was there for a small junior day, but it was very intimate. Meeting with Coach Venables and Coach Valai, they told me basically I was wanted and they would do whatever they needed to get me there.”

He’s also excited by the prospect of playing for one of the sport’s premier defensive minds in Venables, as well as one of the best talent developers in Valai.

“That was big, especially coming from Coach Venables, one of the best defensive-minded coaches in college football,” Sellers said of OU’s efforts to land him. “It showed my value and as a player, you know you’re good, but you don’t know your potential. When someone like that says it, it gives you more confidence going into the future, and that was a big thing for me making me feel more confident when a coach at that level says something.”

The new staff at Texas A&M led by Mike Elko has also worked hard on Sellers since taking over in December.

“They love my film and they’ve been on me since they got there. They want to come on campus bad,” he said. “I haven’t been there since the summer, and they want me t be around them be around some of the players, build the relationship up a little bit.”

Sellers is the No. 177 player in the On300 and the No. 17-rated cornerback in the country. He is also tabbed as the No. 29 overall prospect from the state of Texas in the 2025 class.
