4-star safety Gavin Day commits to Washington: 'Coach Fisch is definitely building something special'

Las Vegas Faith Lutheran safety Gavin Day visited Washington for the first time last summer. Other schools came on strong, and schools like Arizona, Iowa and Utah were at the top, but the Huskies stayed persistent and got him on campus for an official visit.
That is all it took. During his official visit this weekend, Day committed to Jedd Fisch and the University of Washington.
“They’ve been making me feel like their top priority pretty much since they offered me in early May,” Day told On3. “Their message has been pretty clear to me; if you want to play in the league as a defensive back, you go to Washington.”
That got Day’s attention. The four-star spent time on campus this weekend and his mind was made up.

“One of the main reasons I committed was definitely my relationship with the staff, especially coach Mays. I feel like he can be a great mentor and coach for me. Another thing is just the setting of Seattle and how the fan base really rallies around the team is special.
“The connection between me and the staff was probably the most important thing in my commitment. I’m a big relationships person.”
What does this mean for Day’s recruitment?
“I am not taking anymore official visits,” Day said. “Coach Fisch is definitely building something special here with a stable foundation.”
Day is No. 288 in the On300.
